Are Disney Dollars still sold? Are they available somewhere online? I saw some on eBay and the bidding started at twice the face value! I'd like to give some to my son for spending while on our cruise.

They are readily available at any Disney Store. Not sure about ordering them online though...

What I like about them is that you always get a fresh new bill when you purchase them (unlike some other store money) and they come in ones, fives and tens. Disney cancels them out as soon as they are used so you will never get a "dirty" bill.

It seems like I remember reading somewhere that you can't use Disney Dollars on the ship  Anyone know?

You can get disney dollars at a disney store for face value. Don't waste your money on ebay paying twice what they are worth. You cannot use them on the ship to purchase items. But once you get on the ship you can put them towards your account if you want. That's what we do!

It is also a great way to save up for spending on the cruise. I plan on buying a few each week and then bringing them onboard and putting them toward our shipboard account.

I could put away cash...but then something always comes up that I need to use the cash for...with DD I can't use them for groceries!!!

mmouse37, I can relate to everything you are saying. It never fails that I "need" the cash. But I can manage to save the DD until we get on vacation.

So let me get this straight......

I can go to the disney store in my local mall and buy disney dollars....then take them to the ship and upon checking in at the terminal or even at the guest services desk when on board and hand these disney dollars to them to be put on my account??? Then I can pay for bingo, drinks, excursions, tips etc with them????? Because I am alot like the rest of you....everytime I try to put money away, I end up needing it for something....but with the disney dollars....I know I cant spend prior to sailing except in the disney store?! Is this correct?????? Oh please please please....I hope so because I am going to the mall today!!!! :)

::yes::

yep..when people ask us what we want for Christmas this year I will say Disney Dollars! :)

Pea N Me...that is a rumor as of now....I work in a Disney Store and we have not had indication that Disney Dollars will no longer be sold.

I will post if I hear otherwise.

The actual sale of the stores is due to take place sometime in November but the Disney Stores will still be called The Disney Store and will still sell Disney merchandise...it just won't be owned by the Walt Disney Company.

I called DCL today and the lady who answered said, YES, i could buy them and use them on my account on board. I could use them for drinks, bingo, tips etc but just not in the stores on the ship. I sure hope this is right because I ran to the mall today and bought some as a way of saving for my trip. (keeping my fingers crossed).

P.s. The manager at the mall disney store told me that if I have my original receipt and have ANY problems using them for what I have listed above, that I can get cash back for them with my original receipt.

Maybe I should think twice about saving this way??????

Too pure for you....the system on board is a cashless system...meaning ALL PURCHASES no matter where onboard made...bars, arcade, shops, spa, etc....are charged to your KTTW card. You cannot pay for drinks or bingo or any of the above with the physical Disney Dollars.

You are correct that you can apply any amount of Disney Dollars to your shipboard account and then buy your drinks, Bingo, store purchases with your KTTW card.

TooPure4u...mmouse37 is correct...the ships are 100% cashless. You don't exchange money or DD directly at time of any purchase...it's all "charge" to your stateroom account with your KTTW card. When you check in you have to put down a $500 deposit...cash, check, DD, or credit/debit card. If your deposit is anything other than a credit/debit then once your "$500 deposit" is used..your calle back to guest services to add aditional funds to your onboard account. So you could certainly use the dd for your deposit...and additional funds that are needed once your deposit is spent.

I wonder though...how that would work with booking excursions....through DCL...since your booking with them...but they in turn are booking through some one else. ...any one know?

Good question about excursions but then at the same time i was told you cannot use them in the shops on board...

Secondly, for the sake of argument, I have 800 disney dollars and use only 500 on my account.....how do I get the 300 dollars back?

Tracy :)

DCL excursions are also put on your KTTW card. How DCL pays the vendor is up to DCL, but to pay for your DCL excursion you use your KTTW card. We booked an excursion in Cozumel and the line item on our account bill was COZUMEL with the amount of the excursion. The onboard account bills are broken by person in the cabin so it is very easy to see who charged what and when and where.

Independently booked excursions (not thru DCL) usually take credit cards for payment.

About getting money back if not all is used. I believe that you will get any unused money back, but not sure if it will be in Disney Dollars or cash...check with guest services upon boarding. You may be better of putting amounts of DD to your accounting periodically throughout your cruise.

If we have over $500.00 in our onboard account, will we still be required to have this amount as a deposit?

Edited to clarify the question of needing $500.00 deposit PLUS whatever the onboard account contains. Thanks:confused:

I'm not familiar with the Disney Dollars, and I have the same money issues as a lot of other people. If the cash is here, something ALWAYS comes up and I need to use it elsewhere. I talked to my TA and DCL, they both confirmed... Periodically, I mail small incriments of money in the form of a Money Order to the DCL along with a letter stating to place this money on my "onboard account". I just save a copy of the letter and Money Order. When I arrive on the ship, my oboard account is set-up and Paid For. I try to make sure that we have enough for all excursions, drinks, gifts, etc... I have not had a problem. In fact, we are cruising Next May and have already started sending in money to be credited to our account.:boat:
