Did all Disney Stores do away with Disney Dollars? The one by me will only do giftcards? :confused3

Unfortunately they are phasing them out and yes, the stores did stop selling them. I was cleaning out our family storage unit last week and found two $5.00 Disney Dollar bills from the early 90's. I think they're worth more as a collector's item than they would be at the parks!

That's a bummer. My son loved earning Disney Dollars before trips. Oh well. Thanks for the info, at least Disney is going more green. :thumbsup2

Yes and no. IMHO gift cards are better for the business as many forget about the card, or use some and the rest goes "away, or they don't give change so there is a small amount left.

To me a gift card is a diservice to kids as they do not see what they have and what the are spending.

I know it doesn't help with pre-trip planning, but Disney Dollars as of November were still available in the park at City Hall. I stocked up on some to use for part of my boys' allowances for the year.

There is a CA law where they have to give you the change in cash if it is under $10 IF YOU ASK FOR IT. This was a big thing a couple of years ago around Xmas time.

mine doesn't do them anymore either. I'm really bummed about it!

I subscribe to Dilbert's philosophy regarding gift certificates (and disney dollars). "You're trading perfectly good money for something that does the same thing, only not as well."

Unless you're buying them as a souvenir or memento.

Yeah, I'm a party pooper. :)

Completely disagreed. I'm trying to help someone put together a gift box full of disney stuff for their daughter to open for their birthday as a way of saying we're going to Disneyland. And I think Disney Dollars does a much better job than plain cash and will be much more fun for her to open.

For others, it is a way of putting aside some money each month to save up for their trip. They might be tempted to dip into the the plain cash but not the disney gift card or disney dollars.

In some ways I agree, but Disney Dollars can be very motivating for children....my girls would do extra chores to earn extra Disney dollars, but after our trip, they weren't as interested in doing those extra chores just to earn cash, lol. Thankfully now that they're teens they see the error of that thinkng, but as young kids not so much.

For those finding it difficult to find Disney Dollars to purchase, consider looking online for the many many photos of the Disney Dollars from years past, and printing up your own. OBVIOUSLY not usable in the parks, but you can put the real cash onto a Disney gift card that they can exchange their printed pictures for when they arrive.

I'm really sad to see them phase out the Disney Dollars. We buy one for each of our kids as a souviner from our trip. We have a trip planned early June and I'm crossing my fingers they still have them. Has anyone purchased some recently from the WDW Parks?

I just purchased them at City Hall at Disneyland last weekend. We love using them even on day trips. It's just fun:goodvibes

This is where I buy mine. They are so much fun. I would be bummed if they did away with them. Even if you dont use them, they are still great for scrap booking. :goodvibes

we made up our own disney dollers to give to the kids and when it comes time to go to DL we take them to the store with there money and they can put that money on a disney gift card or we will give them cash.

We also buy Disney Giftcards when ever we are at the store so that when we want to go to DL we already have money saved for it. If I didn't have the GC's I would spend that money on other things.
