Cany anyone shed some light on the matter for us! We know they exsist..have heard them mentioned but are they dollar for dollar...accepted in all areas of Disney ..where do you get them from?
My kds want their own spending money for Grandparents this year and will be responsible for their spending. Thought this might be agood idea
Thanks for the advice! :tink:

They are dollar for dollar and come in increments (sp?) of 1,5, and 10. As far as I know they are excepted in all areas of disney at least every place that I have used them. You can purchase them at a local disney store or you can purchase them from the disney resort you are staying at and I believe you can purchase them in the parks. I know at one time you could purchase them via mail from disney but I think they charge a fee for it now so it would be cheaper and easier to wait till you arrived in disney to convert the money.

We've given them as birthday and holiday gifts for kids especially when they know they are going to Disney. It makes it easier to keep that money saved for Disney and makes the upcoming trip seem like it is real. They dollars come with different characters on them. The Disney store near us currently has princesses on them. Cinderella is on the $10. They had Dumbo I think on $1 but were recently sold out of them.

In the past I've taken large groups of students to Disneyworld and and stayed at the All Stars. I used Disney dollars to help the chaperons and me keep track of the money allocated to each student for meals when we didn't have food vouchers and then I had a receipt for the total without asking for kids to keep meal receipts. Disney Dollars were fun for the kids too. They looked forward to getting them each day. If anyone needs to get a lot of Disney Dollars from the Disney Store I suggest you call them ahead and ask that they out them aside for you. Some stores do not carry move than a few hundred dollars worth.

I'm certain Disney doesn't mind that a lot of people go home and keep a few as souvenirs:)

Another option I am goin to do is get the Disney Gift card. I will tranfer the kids money on their credit card with their name. That way ir will be one item with a running balance rather than a lot of loose money for them. They have been saving awhile.:)

If you are looking for some variety and don't want the bulk of carrying Disney Dollars, try the gift cards...but not the ones on Disney Shopping or in the Disney Store. Try this link: http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/reserve/specialOffers/detail?name=ResortCardSpecialOfferPage

You can buy all different themed gift cards from Disneyland online. The following is from their site:

The Disney Gift Card is the ideal way to buy Walt Disney Travel packages, Resort Hotel room nights, Theme Park tickets, food, parking, Disney merchandise, and much more! Cards can be purchased in amounts ranging from $5 to $1500 and they can be reloaded at any time. Be sure to get one for your next Disney vacation, or they make a great gift for any occasion.

The Disney Gift Card can be redeemed at the following locations:

Disney Store locations in the U.S.

Personally, I liked this option and my DS's really like the POTC gift cards. pirate: The thought of carrying Disney Dollars with the princesses on them just didn't appeal to my kids at all (not even DD).

The Disney Dollars sound good...but you're right the card might be easier to keep up with. We'll check into both options! My dd loves to spend money ...so we have to give her more responsibility for her spending. You know..when it's gone..it's gone! lol:wizard:

Thanks for the great tip on using the gift card. We've used DD $ in the past and was always worried it'd get wet or we'd lose some especially for the kids. I'm going to show this to my DH and DMom for our upcoming trip.

PS Where did you find the "girl mouseketer smiley" ?

:earsgirl: The girl one is listed right next to the boy one in the smilies. Or you can type : earsgirl : without the spaces.
