I just went to the Disney store today and got my DD some Disney dollars. The 1's are Cinderella. They are so cute my DH even thought they were pretty cute and he isn't much for cuteness.

How fun! We always use these as rewards before our trip. It's about time for me to buy some. They're great incentives! Can't wait to see the Cinderella ones-

Are these strictly for collecting, or can they be spent at Disney? sorry, our first family trip and still learning. :Pinkbounc

You can definitely use them all over WDW. I have been giving my boys DD for their allowance all year. Santa brought them DD in their stocking and even the Easter Bunny and Tooth Fairy joined in on the fun! My DS 4 and 6 don't even want real money. If they do get real money, they immediately want to trade it in for DD. This is helping them save for their spending money. They know that I will buy them a sweatshirt from WDW, but they are responsible for any other souvenier they would like. Every time I go to the mall, I stop in the Disney Store and pick up about $20 DD. This has helped me save for our trip!

I gave my dd a whole bunch last year. Instead of earning her usual $3 a week for chores, I gave her $3 a week in Disney Dollars. She had $50 in Disney Dollars and had a blast spending them at Disney. :teeth:

My DD's b-day is in Sept. And I ususally give her Disney Dollars. Santa also gives them to her in her stocking when we are ther for C-mas.

Although this past year she got 50th LE dollars and wants to save them!

Hmmm, an incentive for good behavior, chores and getting homework completed... I must hit the store soon! However, DS (DD is too young) doesn't even know yet we are going!!

The 10 I got yesterday was Stitch. We also got Cinderella and Donald as our 1 and 5.

The last set I got which was some time ago had Mickey on the 1, Goofy on the 5.

I would like some of those Mickey dollars again. And I would love a Dumbo.

SGMom,

These can be used just like cash anywhere in Walt Disney World. You can even tip cast members with them (they have a way to change them out for cash at the end of their shift). They're especially nice if you want to use a credit card for your Disney expenses, but don't want to have charging activated on the kid's room keys. There are also some carts and other locations that can't do room charges, but will take Disney Dollars.

If you buy them at the Disney store and save your receipt, you can convert them back to regular cash after your trip. From my experience, though, there usually isn't much cash left after the trip. :lmao:

I need to go back and get some 1s! Thanks for the reminder! :)

Stupid question...Do they expire? We are just beginning our planning for a trip in 2008. I would like to start picking them up little by little, much easier on the budget! But, if they "expire", not such a great idea!

Nope, they never expire. :teeth:

And you can exchange them for cash straight-up at any WDW resort concierge desk and *possibly* guest relations at the parks (not sure on that one though). We never have any left over, LOL!

Thanks for the info.!! That is a great thought about tipping the CMs... oh, can you give me examples of when a tip would be appreciated? And glad to know you can cash these - you're right though, we probably won't have any left!! It's funny, I've been giving hints to my DD 2 about our upcoming trip because I know she doesn't have a clue what I'm talking about and she seems so excited  I'm just bursting to tell my DS 6 the surprise that we are going!!

BTW, we live in VA also!

My 3 kids have been saving them for almost a year and we don't go to disney world until may 2007! They each have a cute decorated jar in the kitchen to hold them. My parents have them do easy yard work like picking up branches and stuff and they give the kids disney dollars. I've noticed over the past year that the pictures on them change and they are different per each type: $1, $5, $10 and so on. We have some really cute chicken little ones...I think i'll keep one of those to save! They can also be used right at the Disney Store. If you keep the receipt from when you purchase them they can be returned for cash. An employee recently told me about a swipe card I guess like a gift card that apparently I can put all of our disney dollars on. I've debated about doing this. I think if my kids actually see the dollars leaving their little purses for purchases, they may spend more slowly. If all they have to do is swipe a card...i think they'll blow through the money too fast. I highly recommend them! :cheer2:

I would like to get some Disney Dollars for my niece's upcoming trip. We no longer have a Disney store. Where else can I find them?
