Disney Dollars or Travelers Checks?

I've read a lot of posts about disney dollars lately, but I don't entirely understand them. I know that D$'s are "disney" currency, and can be exchanged for cash, used anywhere in the park, and some places outside, etc.

My question is: I was originally looking into getting some travelers checks before going to DLR. Now I'm thinking of Disney Dollars, but do Disney Dollars offer any sort of protection like travelers checks do? If they are lost or fall out of our pockets on a ride can we get reimbursed? Or, are they like cash and if they're lost or stolen.... they're gone?

Would anyone recommend travelers checks at DLR? Anyone not like Disney Dollars? And finally... is there any advantage to D$'s over cash?

We used to use all of the listed and have gone completely to a debit card and cash. Hopefully others chime in.

Disney dollars are just like cash at the park. If you lose them, you lose them. You don't get reimbursed for it. We have done both travelers checks and cash. I don't mind either. But, we always ended up having more cash anyways because we would buy something for 10 dollars and have to break the $50 traveler check. Recently we have been mainly using our debit card and cash. I don't prefer one over the other.

It sounds like if you aren't converting rewards points over that D$'s are more a matter of the "fun" aspect than anything. Based on what I've heard back, for this trip at least we are planning on just using a combo of cash and cc's.

Dont forget though, Traveler's Check can also be used somewhere ELSE... like at a store and such while Disney Dollars can ONLY be used at Disneyland.
