Disney Dollars onboard

I got some d-dollars at the d-store tonight and they assured me that we could use them onboard. I knew the experts here can confirm this for me....

Can we use them in the shops onboard and/or on Castaway Cay?

You can't use them in the shops or on CC, but you can apply them, or use them, to pay your cruise charges that you make on the ship or at CC.

If you bought them for the kids, they seem to have more fun spending the disney dollars at the parks (if you have a park visit planned for your trip). On the ship, everything you purchase gets put onto your KTTW card and the total bill gets paid at guest services. They will except the Disney Dollars as payment, but it's not a lot of fun for a kid!! (or for the grown ups for that matter!!) Using them at the park shops or in Downtown Disney stores seems a little more fun. It's like having Mickey Money!!

I told my kids that I applied the Disney Dollars to their KTTW cards and therefore they could use their cards for anything they wanted to purchase. I never really did this because I didn't want to apply the Disney Dollars to the account if they weren't going to spend it. They didn't end up spending anything because there wasn't anything that they wanted on the ship. They decided to save their money for our trip to California. I was able to buy my daughter a navy blue jogging suit (with pants that zip-off) with a grey sweatshirt lining that said Disney Cruise Line on the leg and on the back of the jacket for half price. The whole set was only $39 and it's really nice.

My DD, 9 loved to charge her purchases on her KTTW card, and she would immediately grab her Disney Dollars and go to guest services to pay off her purchase.

The advantage of her doing this on the ship instead of the parks was I felt like I was wasting "ride" time at the stores at the parks. On the ship - she popped in and out of the stores the entire cruise.
