I have been putting off going to the mall--you know not shopping--but went the other day to get a bunch of Disney dollars and the girl said "we stopped carrying them last Friday." I was floored, she said they still have them at the parks but I could get a gift card, whatever--so I got that. That stinks!

someone posted a thread about that the other day, i think it stinks because sometimes i just want to buy a few bucks to set aside.. it's more fun that way.

OMG I just bought some there a few weeks ago! We use them as rewards before our trip, then when we arrive our son has his own spending money.

I guess since the chain is going bankrupt they are making all kinds of changes... Poo

The chain IS NOT going bankrupt!! I have been with the Disney Store for over 16 years and been through many changes. The stores have stopped carrying the Disney Dol;lars for other reasons. We will be carrying many different styles of the gift cards. Dollars may be bought through mail order or at the parks.

I guess I was thinking of last year when they filed, but I guess since then Disney re-bought them and for now they are safe. Either way, it stinks that you can't get the dollars there. Now I will need to come up with a new rewards plan :(

The gift cards can be great too. We now have many styles, with more to come. We have that same old Mickey one, but added Princess, Toy Story, and Fab 5 (I think?) A Princess and the Frog one is coming soon, and a holiday one, etc. I like the gift cards for the tween and teens at the parks. Before if they used a $10 DD on a $3 item, they got cash back in change....... I like them having a card to use instead, with no cash back, no cash to carry in the parks (if they split up from the adults).

You can buy a card, and add value to it, or just buy many different cards.

I know the DD were cute........ but I think their time has come. I would expect the parks to stop selling them eventually too.

When I went to the one In Montgo Mall in Pa they only had the Mickey card- I will try either Lehigh or King of Prussia--maybe they will have more cards. Hopefully the parks won't stop selling-- I think they are cute and a great incentive for kids when you are going to the parks.

Question: Do the gift cards carry an expiration date or penalty for non-use? Thank you.

No expiration on the GCs. Check out disneygiftcard.com for good info.

You can also buy GCs through disneyland.com for no shipping cost, and disneyshopping.com as well.

I think this stinks, and I hope it's not the first step in doing away with them all together.

I am against the gift cards and refuse to buy them, my whole family feels the same way. Lets put aside the fact that some people like it better then carrying cash.
Why I hate it,
1-It is NOT FUN like the Disney Dollars.
2-with the card you will spend more without thinking because you don't have actual cash on you to see what you are doing.
3-My DD will lose the card and it's easier to lose the card then it is to lose cash.
4- My DS 7 is not interested in a card he wants money and so does my niece 5 and nephew 3. Again you can control the spending with cash with the little ones.

If it is the paper issue then recycle, I was told one time they throw them away when they get them back:scared1:Why:confused3 recycle it!

I hope they realize it was a mistake and get them back.
I am not starting a fight it's just my opinion, We won't be buying the gift cards.

Little ones lose cash, too. At least with the gift cards, they can be replaced if you keep the original purchase receipt. And, with the many designs, I'm not sure what's not fun about them. But, to each his own.

I mush prefer the Disney Dollars and will probably now give wee ones cash and tell them to spend it at Disneyland. Or, I'll just go to Disneyland as I am close. It was nice getting them at my Disney store, though.

It IS much more fun to give kids the Dollars with characters on them than a plastic card. The kids in my family think that plastic cards are credit cards and that they can get ANYTHING they want. Not true when you give them $20 and they then count it out and know what they can spend.

Plus, they were interchangeable with cash. Can you turn in a Disney card for cash?

I just got online today to see about getting Disney Dollars and found out they aren't at the stores anymore. (Though one place I read that some stores still might have a little inventory, but once they are gone--they're gone.) We used these a lot for our last trip...Santa, the tooth fairy, everyone got into it! ;o) Then we didn't have to give the kids any money once we got there--they had their dollars and once they were out they were done. I was going to send the info to far away relatives saying this would be good as Christmas/birthday gifts for my kids. Bummer!!!

Don't bother at the Lehigh Valley Mall as they have stopped carrying them as well. My DS is 7 and I think he would rather have the DD because he can actually count what he has. It also helps him learn about spending - not just swiping a plastic card. You could probably try to find them on line (if you want to pay shipping for them).

I love Disney Dollars. I am sad you can't buy them at the stores anymore.

I am not sure if I will get the gift cards yet or not.

I'm a huge fan of Disney Gift Cards! I love my Alice one! I purchase them here ~ *free shipping - https://tickets.disney.go.com/buy/T...wtbjyX1JNqm2RYqU41yNIgAIeIiRK2oKPx3IWWxP2YrM= *can also be used at WDW & Disneydirect.com Also FYI you can add $ to a Gift Card by calling ~ Disney DelivEars (Merchandise Guest Services) - 800-362-4533 - they mail you a receipt. If you lose a GC so long as you have the card # you're safe ~ what can be done if you lose Disney Dollars?

I work at the Disney Store at the Lehigh Valley Mall - I've been there for about 10 years (minus the time that I worked at WDW).

I would call ahead of time before driving up to the store to make sure that they are available. I know as of Saturday we had the Mickey ones for sure. If you call and we dont' have them, then that would save you a drive up. :)

I just wanted to add that we didn't decide to not carry them anymore, we were informed by the Disney Company that we wouldn't be carrying them. Disney Dollars are so popular and I hate to see them go. Trust me, I wish we still had them.

For everyone that is upset about the DD being pulled from the stores, let Disney know. If they get enough guest feed-back, hopefully they will listen. :)

I loved the Disney Dollars for my DD but was always scared to death of losing them. This year I got her a Disney Fairies gift card and kept the receipt separate in case it got lost. My Daughter knew how much was on the card and every time she made a purchase at WDW, the CMs would circle the amount she had left on the receipt (it prints out how much is left on the gift card). Since I had my iPhone, she would also check the balance online to see how much she'd spent.
