I have a friend who just called me from the NYC 5th Avenue store who was told by one of the CM's that Disney will not be issuing any more Disney dollars. They will accept whatever is circulating out there in the parks, but they will not be selling the dollars at the stores or at the parks. Replacing the $$ is a new-type of debit card - "Disney shopping and dining card" - just like a gift card, but it is only valid in the parks. I still have some $$ left over from our last trip ....the CM said the $$ will most likely become collectibles -- anybody hear anything about this???? What happens at the stroller rental ?? They always give you a Disney Dollar when you do your return....hmmm.....

19 days and we off on our 13th trip!!! :cool1:

Wow really? I thought Disney did really well out of the dollars as, like me, you end up keeping a bunch as souvenirs. I like them, I don't think I would use a gift card to be honest. I find it tough enough to keep track of my Disney Rewards card (I never see to be able to find the reciept with the remaining balance on!)

Really? I had someone in Guest Relations tell me there would be $50 in DD waiting for me when I checked in on Thanksgiving because of a lot of problems I had had. Figures  :rotfl:

I just sent my niece some for her birthday. They didn't mention any thing about not being able to use them, they didn't even ask me when they were going to be used.

>>> Just so you know, from a confirmed source, Disney Dollars are not going away. So, if you have Disney Dollars, you will still be able to use, and buy them.

We just bought some Disney Dollars at City Hall, MK this past Saturday.

BTW they did away with the stroller rental deposit.

I didn't think that they would go too far. ;) It's Disney's opportunity to give nothing for something, that something being cash. Those who buy Disney dollars with the intent of using them on a future trip are loaning Disney hard currency, interest free. Why would they give that up? Those who "collect" Disney dollars, or go home with a $5 or $10 or a $1, or all three, are giving Disney money for absolutely nothing.

ITA. Disney makes HUGE profits on Disney $$ - most people do not spend them, and they cost probably a couple of cents to print. I have not heard anything at work about them going away - but then again, we are usually the last to know. :teeth: :teeth:

I see them being spent all the time at DTD. I really think a lot of people use them at the parks. I always did.

Oh my, and I was thinking of purchasing them monthly and paying for AKL next July with them. Can you imagine if I got there and they didn't accept them?!? :faint:

MAN, I have been printing them for years in my basement and now this

I think that many people who buy them spend "most of them". How many people however take a couple of them home? Enough to make Disney Dollars very profitable for the Disney Company.

Guilty, I have a $5 from about 3 yrs. ago. :rolleyes1 And I probably will never spend it, because I wanted one as a souvenir.

WDW was still selling the Disney Dollars as of yesterday. They are also busy pushing the gift card idea as well. These gift cards are on display at every register throughout the parks it seemed. :cool1:
