I have a friend who just called me from the NYC 5th Avenue store who was told by one of the CM's that Disney will not be issuing any more Disney dollars. They will accept whatever is circulating out there in the parks, but they will not be selling the dollars at the stores or at the parks. Replacing the $$ is a new-type of debit card - "Disney shopping and dining card" - just like a gift card, but it is only valid in the parks. I still have some $$ left over from our last trip ....the CM said the $$ will most likely become collectibles -- anybody hear anything about this???? What happens at the stroller rental ?? They always give you a Disney Dollar when you do your return....hmmm.....

It's Disney's opportunity to give nothing for something, that something being cash. Those who buy Disney dollars with the intent of using them on a future trip are loaning Disney hard currency, interest free. Why would they give that up? Those who "collect" Disney dollars, or go home with a $5 or $10 or a $1, or all three, are giving Disney money for absolutely nothing.

And I probably will never spend it, because I wanted one as a souvenir.
