Sorry if this is old news, but I was surprised. We wanted to start accumulating disney dollars for our son for our trip in November. Several Disney stores we went to were out. Finally I requested to speak to a manager of the last store I was in and was told that there was a "freeze" and the stores would no longer be carrying the "disny dollars" at this point. I was also told there was a "buyout" of the Disney stores By Disney (?) and the manager said they are hoping to start selling them again in the future.

Anyway to get them without paying an arm and leg on E-BAY?

Thanks

Not the same, I know, but you can buy Disney gift cards on the Disney shopping web site. I can't remember if they sell dollars there, but I don't think so.

Order Disney Dollars by mail

Purchases by mail are available through Ticket Mail Order at:

International Guests should call (714) 781-4025 for ordering instructions.

You may also order them through Walt Disney World Ticketing

The shipping charge is $3 unless you want "Express" delivery (5-7 business days) then it is $10.

IMPORTANT Reminder: If you use a credit card to purchase Disney Dollars, any amount over $50 will be treated like a cash advance and your account charged the corresponding fees. A few months ago, a reader sent in a tip on ordering Disney Dollars through the mail. Ramona writes with an even speedier method: "We are going to Disney World this May. I wanted to give our two boys Disney Dollars for their Easter basket. Since we do not have a Disney Store very close by, I wanted to find out if I could order them -- but knowing I was under a time constraint (less than two week s) I was worried they would not arrive in time. I was told that I could order via fax. I faxed in my order first thing Monday morning, and what do you know? The very next morning, there was the Fed Ex guy with my Disney Dollars! The best part was that the shipping was free! You can fax your order complete with the denominations ($1's, $5's, or $10's), name, address, and credit card information, to 1-407-566-5645. Thanks, Disney, for the first class service... AGAIN! "

More Disney dollar info: If you order them through central reservations, which is where that mysterious allearsnet.com fax number went through, you can do it over the phone instead of via fax at 407-566-4985 ...have also heard there is a $10 shipping charge per order via phone.

who were going before me, buy some while they were down there. When are you going, I'm going in November and could help you out!:goodvibes

just reread your post, you'll probably be there around the same time as us! Sorry!

No problem! I hate to see anyone use eBay when you can get them from the source without the mark up. :goodvibes

Disney Corporation has decided to buy back the Disney Stores from Children's place. Part of this process is to close down the less profitable stores.

There is not a freeze on Disney Dollars. The stores that are going out of business have transferrred their Disney Dollars to locations that are not closing. Some stores have already closed, some will be closing over the next 6 months.

I bought Disney Dollars on Tuesday from one of the only 3 stores in my area that are remaining open. She had just recieved a shipment in as a matter of fact and told me they are "selling like hotcakes" all over the US.

In the meantime, you can always order them from Direct from Disney. Looks like another member has already provided the information.

The Disney store in my area that is closing stopped selling the dollars as soon as the closing was announced and had to ship them to the store that is remaining open. As a PP noted, the Disney Dollars are flying out the door as fast as they can get them back in stock. I wanted to buy some yesterday and the clerk told me that as soon as they get a shipment, they're gone in a couple days. They don't know when they'll get them, so I was told to check once a week. I like them better than gift cards for the kids. It helps them keep track of their budget better. With the gift cards, they never pay attention to the balance and wind up surprised when it's suddenly zero.

I understand what you are saying, but I even calld the Disney store on 5th avenue in New York City ( about 30 minutes from where I live), and I was told the same thing from them as every other Disney store I called, and I know the N.Y.C. store is not closing down. There is no reason the N.Y.C. store should not be carrying Disney dollars.

I had a hard time getting the Disney Store to reload my gift card. The store I shop at that is not closing said they could only sell me a new one not reload one. I went home and e-mailed disney they said I can reload it at the store. The next week I did that and the girl working said they never stopped reload them and did it for me. The next two weeks my ds wanted his reload and the asst. manager said they don't do that. By this time I was really angry and told them I received an email from Disney that said they did she precceeded to argue with me but finally recharged my ds, card. I wish someone would figure out what they are doing. They were very rude!!!:confused3 :confused3

I live in Canada and none of our stores sell them here anymore (to my knowledge), I was on a shopping trip last weekend and had luck getting Disney Dollars from the Disney Store in the Carousel Mall in Syracuse. They said they don't have a lot of them and just small denominations (1s and 5s) which worked perfectly for me as I'm using them as rewards for my kids from now until we go on our trip in November.

They also had a great 40% off sale merchandise as well, it was fabulous. Good luck finding some! :)

Great. Thank you for the info. We are going to be out in Syracuse in a couple weeks. I will have to stop there and see if we can get some. Thanks again.:goodvibes

That is crazy because the gift cards are reloadable at any time. That makes me really upset that they didn't do that for you...especially since I work at a TDS myself and have reloaded cards in the past. The only time they wouldn't be able to reload a card would be if the entire system was down, which I can say has happened before too.

My store is not closing, but right now we are out of gift cards and Disney Dollars. There's nothing we can do about it sadly.

A number of years ago "The Children's Place" bought the Disney stores....and earlier this year they sold them back to Disney. THe sale probably is not complete yet and since Disney Dollars are basically gift certificates or cash exchanges, it makes sense that Disney would not want The Children's Place to collect the money and then Disney Stores under Disney would have to redeem them for merchandise that in essence they didn't get the cash from. One of the dangers of ANY gift cards/gift certificates type thing is that if the company issuing them goes bankrupt (or completely out of business) you will be left holding worthless gift certificates with zero value. Considering how poorly The Children's Place is doing and that they were considering bankruptcy (and may still do it even after the buyout), people are very lucky that Disney is still backing those DIsney Dollars! Yes, it would be a public relations nightmare for them not to do so, but the fact is that you did not buy them from Disney, but from The Children's Place. What a mess that would have been!

I give my kids half their allowance in Disney Dollars for several months before our trip, that way they have spending money. It's absolutely amazing how reluctant they are to purchase things when it's THEIR money, but how quickly they used to "have" to have things when it was MY money. My kids actually came home with leftover money the last trip....something that rarely has happened when I've given them a set spending limit of my money!

The sale back to the Disney Company went through on May 1.

Even when we were TCP, we sold Disney Dollars and Gift Cards. When Disney Dollars were purchased, they were 100% Disney Dollars and didn't belong to TCP at all, same as the Gift Cards. Nobody is in danger of losing any money on Gift Cards that were purchased while we were TCP. The Gift Cards (whether purchased prior to May 1 or now) never expire so there's no worry there either. :)

They told me that Disney sent out info. that said they were not suppose to reload them anymore. The manager and asst. manager told me this.

I'm going to have to ask about that tomorrow night when I work. I wasn't told that when I worked on Tuesday night so I'm going to check for sure.

Wow - that is really odd. :confused3 I wonder why.

Our store is stocked with them and we have not had any issues. I have been purchasing $50 - $100 every 2 weeks with no issues.
