Disney Dollar Dilema

So my SIL and I have this great idea for our Easter Egg hunt this year. We're going to stuff the plastic eggs with Disney Dollars and pins. Only problem, Disney Store has neither and won't be getting any disney dollars in until May (which won't work for us, lol).

So here's my dilema, I went to ebay and found pictures of disney dollars and made my own for now. They are smaller than real disney dollars and not printed on the back so there will be no confusion about trying to "forge" them. We're also using them for "allowance" until our trip. So at WDW, I can exchange them for "real dollars" but I don't want to take away my kids' joy at having earned "their money." They're all 5 and under and probably wouldn't understand the exchange thing. Do you think when they buy something I could give the CM our "disney dollars" along with my room key to pay for the item. Would they follow along and keep the magic going? Am I better off just making the exchange and hoping the kids "get it?"

TIA,

Carren

What about getting them gift cards? Then before your trip and when the Disney Store has restocked you they can exchange the gift cards for the Disney Dollars.

Also, keep in mind that the Disney Store does occassionally get Disney Dollars the older ones, you just have to keep on calling them. May is when they release the Disney dollars associated with the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland.

Keep trying though - that's the key at least so I am told. Good luck!

We are having the same problem. We wanted to give stuff eggs with Disney dollars also. We are making our own for the time being, and then will give real ones when they come in. ::MickeyMo

I'm doing the same, but making my own on purpose. I was afraid DS4 would lose the real D$ so I bought some brightly colored 3" x 5" index cards and stickers. He got blue ($1) and green ($5) and DD8 got pink ($1) and purple ($5). That way there would be no confusion if the 'stashes' go mixed  They have various opportunities to earn them.

I did not want to give them redeemable money when our trip was so far away. I also figured that they could give me the dollars at the cabin or store, and we'd redeem them right then. I don't want them running around with too much cash anyway, especially the little one.

We're not even doing candy this year. Just videos of disney, books (the family addiction  and D$!

Last I checked..2 weeks ago our store still had some. I can check again as there are 2 Disney Stores within 30 mins of my house. I would be happy to pick some up (with reimbursment for the cost of the money and postage) for people if they need them. Send me a msg if I can help in any way.....

I tried this a few years ago . They wont let you buy Disney Dollars with a gift card from the Disney Store

I ordered the Disney Dollars over the phone and received them very quickly. I paid $3 (the cheapest shipping option) for shipping, though.

Call the 407 number and they will give you the address to send a check to and then will send you the disney dollars in the domination you are looking for.

I've decided to stick with my original plan. Especially since as one poster mentioned, my kids are likely to tear them or lose them before our trip. When we get there I'll ask about paying with our "dollars" while slipping them the room key. If that isn't okay, I'll just have to explain "exchanging them" to my kids.

On the upside, we cashed in the penny jar my kids have been working on for a year. It came to $162.00!!! Their disney account now stands at $482.00. I'm very impressed with them. They've diligently taken our change every night and added it to the "Disney Bank."

Thanks again for all your suggestions.

Thanks for the info. I just mailed out a check for some dollars, I decided it was worth it for my son who gets $1 allowance a week for his chores and it would be great to collect them in his bank for the trip...plus he gets $1 for his A's in school. He is very excited with this idea. The younger one, I will just hold on to them till we go.
