Welcome to my first trip report. That's right we are Orlando virgins. Never taken as kids we thought we would give it a try. Who are we, we here you ask?
I'm Andy I do all the research, trip planing and booking. I'm 41 from Stoke on Trent and work in the theatre industry currently spending my 6th year on tour with a ballet company. But have worked for two UK theme parks - American Adventure which was based in Derbyshire as there show manager and also nearly 4 years at Alton Towers Resort as the entertainments assistant production manager.
My partner Julie (49) works for the NHS as a staff nurse and knows what she likes and doesn't take any part of the planning. She likes to turn up and it to happen. She had a little look at things before we went, but generally wanted to see it first hand when we got there.
Saturday 27th September - Travel To Airport
We decided this year to stay over at the airport so we don't have to rush on the Sunday morning, we don't live that far but still an added hassle we don't need. After a visit to Julies family in Manchester we end up at Manchester Airport booking into the Blewleys Hotel. They were offering a deal for 15 nights car parking, breakfast and 1 night accommodation.
The check in was quick, booked dinner for that night, sorted the car and morning shuttle and up to the room. The room was very clean, comfy and well decorated.
We booked dinner for 7.30pm but by 6.45 we couldnt wait no longer. We goes down and see if we can bring it forward. Phew thankfully they could and were seated quite quickly.
The menu was very mixed and with that in mind I ordered the Bell Pepper and Tomato Soup, Battered Pollock with Chunky Chips, Julie, Pate, and the Baked Fish on Fondant Potato.
Soup was tasty served with hot bread, the Pollock had a light batter but needed some form of seasoning either on the fish or batter. The Chunky Chips are not normally my favourite but tonight they were fantastic, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Julie's Pate was tasty but ratio to the bread let it down, not that there wasn't enough bread, just there was too much pate. Her fish was soft and flaky and tasted nice.
As we were on holiday we of course had puddings. Me the chocolate Brownie and Julie the Lemon Crème Brulee with a lemon Biscuit. The brownie was dry and needed cream rather than the ice cream, and the Brulee could have done without the lemon and the lemon Biscuit could have been better.
After dinner we returned to the room to watch tv
Sunday 28th September - Flying to Orlando
We woke early as we didn't want to rush. Dressed and was down to breakfast, which was empty. Well it was about 6am.
The breakfast was a buffet and had a slight Irish fare. Lots of choice and would have been well worth the £10 if we had to pay it.
Dropped the keys off to our car to the front desk and boarded the shuttle bus to the airport terminal 2.
Check in was unusual for virgin, jostling for the shortest queue. We managed to get stuck behind a problem couple who apparently thought there company had booked the return flights but not according to Virgin. Once this was sorted we were checked in fast. My bag 16kg and Julie's 17kg plenty of space for the return.
After we got rid of our bags we went outside to let Julie have one last cigarette before going through security. Through security and Julie cleared first time (makes a change) me, I get my hand luggage flagged up and swabbed for drugs, then let go.
Of course the next spot was Nero for coffee. Julie lives for her tea and coffee. My friend Lisa and Dave, who were also flying over and back on the same flight found us and joined us for one and before soon we were on our way to Gate 300
Never been so far up, and then I realised it was another first, cause we had to get a bus to the airplane.
On the airplane we were sat near the back, just 2 seats together on the left side of the plane. Plenty of room, and before long we were taxing to take-off.

Flight was mainly calm and only a bit of turbulence in places. Food was the normal airline fare which I wasn't bothered about as I was still full from breakfast. Half way through we got a bit of a shock when they were giving out Fab lollies. Not had one of these since I was about 8. Nice surprise. Later afternoon tea was served, small sandwich, crisps and instead of the scone we got a chocolate caramel shortbread.
Soon after we landed safely and onwards to customs and immigrations.
Well how can I put this politely - A Joke. Because of the new automatic system we talked the young lady guard into letting us through to use the new machines. This was a complete waste of time as when we had queued to do it, it was only done again moments after by a real human being. This took forever and there was plenty of raised voices. It took us longer to get into Orlando than it did to get into New York shortly after 9/11
Anyway it was done, outside for a quick cigarette for Julie and on our way to join Disney Magical Express. We were seen quickly and shown to our motorcoach and soon after we were on our way.
Dropping off at each of the All Star Resorts in turn we were the last stop but finally here

Seeing as it took an age to get through security at the airport the car hire centre was closed.
Check in was easy. Magic Bands sorted, and off we went to the room. The room was easy to find after Julie had the map the right way round. Used the Magic Band to open door both worked first time.

After we quickly unpacked, we caught the Bus over to Hollywood Studios, quick photo then used our fastpass for Fantasmic.

After Fantasmic we found a smoking area and felt a drip on our head. We thought nah. Started walking back to the exit then the heavens opened. Ive never seen so much water come out of the sky in such a small time. We were soaked. Soaked to the skin soaked. By now we only half way to the exit. So put a little spurt on as everyone was hiding under cover. We got to the resort bus and managed to get onto the first one. But then the AC hit us. God it was cold. It was the longest ride of our life. Back to the resort we hotfooted it to our room, put our kettle on and showered to get warm
