I know it seems like this Q would be out of place, but I'm thinking of stashing a little extra spending money on a Disney Gift Card. One was given to me in 2006 for our wedding trip, and it was purchased locally, at a Disney Store. BUT since there are all the changes going on with the Disney Stores, will the gift cards still work the same, buy and add money to at Dis Store locations, and spend at WDW?

My plan is for every purchase I make at the Disney Store Outlet (yes, it's remaining open!) I'd add $10 or so to the card. (See? It really is budgeting! It *is* relevant! Hehe!)

Thanks!!

If you have a disney store nearby then adding the money to a current gift card would work, I believe. Since I don't, that's not what I do.

I earn Disney gift cards elsewhere, and I also save money for my trips in a special savings account. When I get to the parks, I go and buy a big gift card, and use that for spending money while at the parks. It works wonderfully for me to budget, and instead of bunches of little debits on my card throughout the vacation, it's just the big giftcard purchases. Much easier to track for me.

If you haven't checked it out, go to www.disneygiftcard.com

Disney Gift Cards will not be affected by the change in ownership at the Disney Stores.

The Disney Gift Card is not a Disney Store item; it can be used at the Disney Store, Diosney parks and resorts at both WDW and Disneyland, on the Disney Cruise, and on DisneyShopping.com.

The Disney Store will continue to sell, recharge, and accept Disney Gift Cards as payment.

You may want to double check the card you have and make sure it's not one that can be used only at the stores. It's only been within the past couple of years that they now sell ones in the store that can be used at the parks. I can't remember the date the change was made, so check on it, as 2006 was a little while ago. I'd hate for you to add money and not be able to use it at the park.

The current Disney Gift Card system replaced the old Disney Store gift cards in early 2006 (I got my first one in May 2006).

If it looks like this, it's one of the current Disney Gift Cards that is good all over:

Thanks! :thumbsup2
I couldn't remember exactly when it was, so the date and picture should help the OP!

We have been getting them for every imaginable occasion since last August.

We have something like $600 in Disney gift cards for our upcoming trip:cool1:

Cool, that's exactly what we got last time, so if I don't see the same one, I'll pass, just in case.

I wish there was an occasion coming up where we could ask for a Disney gift card! DD's birthday is coming up, but I'm wondering if it would be appropriate to ask for one for her b-day. (I'd spend it all on her, of course!)

I know this thread is a little old but I was wondering if anyone could help me with my gift card situation....Our trip is already paid for in full with our disney visa card.....But....Right now it is looking like we will have four different gift cards to use @ Disney.....One is a honeymoon gift card and I have no idea what balance will be on it at the time. The website says that we can call and have that gift card balance put towards on balance and they will credit our credit card...Has anyone done this before? Our other gift cards will be a 300 disney visa dollars....a 100 dollar gift card from Cefcu rewards card....and then a 20 dollar visa dollars....The other 320 dollars worth of cards....Can I use those to pay off my bill at the end of the trip for things ive charged to my room key?

Actually, you do that at the beginning of your trip.

What you do is, use all of your Disney Gift Cards to put down a deposit when you check in, to enable charging on your Key to the World card (you can do this with Disney Gift Cards, Disney Dollars, travelers checks, or cash). When you check out, any unspent balance will be refunded to you in cash.

Can I pay off my remaining balance that I have for my room/tickets with my different gift cards? If I buy MNSSHP tickets can they put that on my "tab" and then I can pay off my "tab" with my gift cards?

Yes, yes, and sure.

You can pay your remaining room or package balance with Disney Gift Cards - multiple cards if you want - and you can buy MNSSHP tickets with Disney Gift Cards.

Likewise, the "tab" at a Disney Resort would refer to charging purchases to your room key (which is called the Key to the World or KTTW card). You can enable this charging feature when you check in, in one of two ways: 1) you can have a credit card swiped, and the KTTW charges will be charged to the credit card, or 2) you can leave a deposit (in either cash, travelers checks, Disney Dollars, or Disney Gift Cards), and any unspent remainder will be refunded to you in cash when you check out.
