Disney Discriminates Against Photographers

I just found this thread and had a question.

So, what happens to those of us who are professionals? I am a professional potographer for families, weddings, seniors, etc. (even sheep!!) However, the three times I have been to Disney World have been strictly for family time. I cannot imagine going to Disney and not taking my camera (heck, I rarely go to the grocery store without my camera in tow - my bag also doubles as my purse ;) ). How in the world are they supposed to know who is a professional and who isn't?

Although, according to the OP, since I only use a D50 (with a 50mm, 18-55mm and a 70-300mm) of course I can't be a professional, so I should be good.

I too am a professional photographer... I just got back from WDW 10 days ago and wasn't even looked at sideways with all my pro gear. During the day, I carried a Nikon D3 w/17-55mm lens, my bag had a 50mm f1.4, 85mm f1.4, and a 70-200 f2.8. All of it pro gear, none of it was even thought about.
At night, I carried all of that, plus a 20mm f2.8, 2 pocket wizards, an SB-800
and a tripod. Again, no problems.

We were in and out of the parks for a total of 12 days and not once was I asked by any Disney Cast Member about my equipment (wait... I take that back... one cast member asked to see some of my night photos on the back of the camera, but that was it).

I was in Disneyland back last December with similar gear and never had any issues; but it sounds like I was there before this brew-ha-ha with Lohan.

My husband had a ham radio with him and on the first day he was denied entry into Epcot with that. So, whatever.

Take your gear.

This has been very interesting to read. Since having children and going digital I have been a point and click girl. Going through four cameras I have decided to upgrade to a good DSLR. (I still have my worked-the-entire-summer-to-pay-for Minolta SLR camera. LOL) I was planning on buying the Nikon D80. We will be vacationing at WDW but I am interested to see if anything comes up. I wonder if the husband with the princess backpack, two children in gowns and a stroller will make me look professional! LOL:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

what model is your Minolta. if it's autofocus your lenses will work on the new Sony DSLRs

Thanks for the tip. It does have autofocus lenses!! Looks like I will looking into a Sony! Thank you so much!!! I did buy the zoom lense as well. The camrea is old now but not super super old. I bought it in 1996/1997.

I will have to do some research into the lenses and the Sony cameras. Thanks!
