Disney Direct vs Resale

Hello, I mean like perks. Discounts for merchandise, food, Moonlight Magic..etc
There are two aspects to this. One is membership extras which are perks like discounts, Moonlight Magic, lounges, etc. You now need to own at least 150 points direct to qualify for those (unless someone was grandfathered in).

Those are incidental benefits and can go away at any time. If one only has resale points, you are not eligible for any of that.

The second is where points can be used. Points bought resale today are restricted to the O14 resorts. They can not be used at RIV, VDH, CFW and presumably all future resorts. If you buy RIV, VDH, or CFW resale, those are further restricted and can only be used at the home resort...no trades.

Points bought direct can be used everywhere. New buyers can start at 100 points and those 100 points can be used everywhere....once an owner, you can buy as little as 25 points, and those 25 points can be used anywhere.

So, buying resale limits you in ways that direct does not. For us, direct is all we are interested in because we want to be able to use them everywhere. The only resale we might consider (and we have some already) would be resale RIV because its our top resort so owning points that can only be used at RIV is fine with us.

Good luck!

I was listening to a podcast the other day which discussed the latest incentives. I swear it was mentioned that you had to wait one year after resale to get member pricing. I need to listen again for a sanity check. Even so, it doesn’t mean that’s correct.
There is a DVC podcast out there which routinely and confidently states this, but it is incorrect. I've emailed them to politely correct their statement and they ignored me, lol. As you said, it didn't mean they were correct.

It isn't the most popular podcast out there, but it is a well watched one, and it irks me that they confidently are just flat out wrong, lol.

Sandi provided the correct info.

At least I’m not as crazy as I originally thought! Thanks, everyone, for the corrected info on this.
