Disney Dining Rumors

Many, many years ago, when my DH and I were first discovering Disney World, there was dining included with our package plan. I wouldn't mind seeing something like that again

It wasn't a stuff yourself comatose plan like you see today (or did pre-plague).

Rather, you got a pack of vouchers which covered some of your meals.
IIRC, our 6 night trip offered 5 vouchers, per person, good for breakfast or lunch, and 3 dinner vouchers.
These were good in ANY restaurant, at both parks and resorts, and Disney Village (now DSp). You could order appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage (I think alcoholic) from the full menu, or choose a buffet, or get the "meal deal" at the quick service places. Tax and tip were included.

Hello: Yes, years ago we use to go on the World Adventure tour(Gold Key Card) It was great but, boy there was a lot of food, It also included recreational activities(Boats, golf etc.)

Yeah, that's the issue. I think they should offer a plan that includes alcohol and one that doesn't. I know that complicates the offering, but alcohol adds so much to the price of anything and if someone doesn't plan to partake, it would be a great option.

Or make the plans without alcohol, but allow a credit of X amount to upgrade from a soda to alcohol. It could be an additional thing on the dining plan. You buy a deluxe dining plan with 3 TS meals, you also get 3 "$X credit on alcohol and fancy drinks."

Note, I'm not anti-drinking. But particularly with an 11-year-old DD, so nondrinking 'adult', it made it that much harder to maximize the value of the DDP. And, I'm one that would have to save money to do it.

Honestly, how much cheaper is a beer than a coke their price? They could take the booze off but the price isn't going down. ever.

Beer is not cheaper, by a far bit.
Beer is $10 a pint, Cokes are $3.79

That is their price. IF you meant to ask their cost, then the gap is probably even more. Cokes are cheap in bulk carbonated pours. Beer is still expensive.

I have a friend with a restaurant. He said he calculated the total cost to him of a soda including ice, and all the misc costs. It was 10% of what he charged which was normal for his area.

The thing that bothers me about the dining plan is, they include a desert, which we rarely eat, rather than letting you substitute an appetizer for a desert. A salad rather than chocolate cake is a healthier choice anyway.

I also remember when the dining plan included: appetizer, entree, dessert, soft drink and included gratuity. Now that was the way it should be.

The dining plan lead to a slow decline of both food quality (and choice - standardized lunch and dinner menus, for instance). I wish it never existed in the first place. Even though the dining plan more often than not costs more than OOP, people love it and then you throw in the free dining promotions and that has just meant Disney has been cramming every restaurant full of people all day long, which just makes it harder to provide high levels of quality.

If I'm not mistaken a couple of years ago Disney cut the beer back to 12 oz. servings and it was about $9(At least around EPCOT). Still we're not talking a lot of $ and even if they took it off the plan the will not drop the price. The DDP price will never gone down
