disney dining plan reservations

Hi ererybody!

I have heard that guest staying at a WDW resort can make reservation for their entire length of stay (up to 10 days) when calling 180 days before their resort arrival date. My question :
Does my room have to be reserved before I can make dining reservation ? (We presently have our flight tickets but haven't booked anything else... we're getting close to our 180 days arrival date)

I could be wrong, but I think so. People who don't stay on site make reservations for their visits to the parks. You just need a park ticket. Also, you can eat at any resort restaurant without park admission.
 
Yes. You'll have to give your reservation number for them to verify that you are staying on-site and can make 180+10 reservations.

However, there are some changes to the ADR system currently in the works and I think you can only make reservations 90 days out right now. The only exceptions are Cinderella's Royal Table, Chef Mickey's and Victoria & Albert's.
