Is it possible to purchase the disney dining plan if you do not have a magic your way ticket or do you have to purchase both?

The only way you can get the DDP is buy purchasing a package which includes the room at rack rate (or AAA discount if a member and going through AAA), the dining for all nights of the stay, and at least a one-day one-park ticket for each member of the party age three and over. And all tickets must be the same as far as number of days and options.
Unless you are staying at DVC on points, then you do not have to purchase tickets.
