Just a heads up if someone hasn't posted this information yet. I just hung up with MS and the CM informed me that starting 1/3/06 a dining plan will be put into place for those DVC members who are checking in the last week of April and beyond.

He couldn't offer any more information at this time, but I'm wondering what the "perk" will be. Unfortunately we already have the DDE card that doesn't expire until the end of 11/06, so we probably won't be taking advantage of the DDP. But...in the future who knows.

The last week of April? Looks like they want to start the program after all the Easter/Spring Break crowds leave. Most of the participating restaurants probably don't have any ADR's available at this point anyway.

I wonder when they will actually have details on the DVC Member website.

I think it is a nice option for members to have. However for us, DDE is a better program.

What about split stays? Will you be able to do the dinning plan for just the dvc part of your stay?

Just FYI, there are several fairly exhaustive threads on this same subject on the DVC Planning Board. They give all the particulars.

Split stays at Disney technically are handled like this. Any stay of consecutive nights at a single resort is a single stay even if you check out and back in or are in a different unit type. A change of resort is a different stay. Do they track this, my info says not so one could likely get the dining plan for a short stay by checking out then back in.

How expensive is the dining plan going to be, and how does it compare to having DDE? Thanks, Matt :earsboy:

See this thread:

Alot depends on your dining habits. If you plan to sitdown to a large meal (appetizer, entree, dessert) everyday the dining plan would be for you. If not, you may want to look at DDE (assuming you have an AP or FL resident).

I called Member Services yesterday to ask this question because we are planning on a split stay in August and she said that you could indeed do the dining plan for one of your stays or both.

Thanks magicmommy,
I had this same question too.
That's wonderful.
That means I can eat like a piggy that I am in the first half of the trip and try to walk it off on the last half hehe...

I just got off the phone with Member Services and the CM was very knowlegable of the plan. She gave me the specifics:

1. Members can start booking the meal plan starting 01/03/06 through Member Services.

2. The plan can be booked for reservations starting April 1st 2006.

3. The plan must be booked for the entire length of your stay at the resort

4. There is no minumum night stay....if you are staying 1 night at a DVC resort, you can get the meal plan for that 1 day.

5. If you are doing split stays, you can get the plan for the entire trip, provided you are doing DVC resorts for the entire trip. You would just book the plan for each reservation number.

6. Payment is not made until you check into the resort. Your credit card will be charged for the entire plan at check in (not at check out). For split stays, you pay for the 1st part of the plan at check-in at the first resort, the 2nd part of the plan at check-in at the 2nd resort, etc.

7. The plan will be available for cash reservations as well (again, only for DVC resorts)

8. You must book the plan through Member Services, and it can be booked anytime up until check-in. In my case, I am checking in on Sunday April 2nd, so the latest I could call and book would be that Friday, March 31st, since Member Services is not open on Sat and Sun. If I was checking in on Monday, I could call Monday morning before I check in and add the plan.

9. You cannot add the plan once you check in.

10. You can cancel the plan anytime before check-in with no penalty, but cannot cancel once you check in.

They are putting a formal announcement together for the website, but it probably won't be up until after the Holidays.

Hope that helps.

I'm sorry for asking but what is the DDE Card?

Thank you and Merry Christmas,
ANnette

Did ms say what the cost of the dining package will be? ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo ::MinnieMo

$37.99 for adults, $10.99 for children (3-9). That's per night of stay.

I just saw on another thread that the DDE is going up to $60 for AP holders next year.

Does anyone know if the dining plan would be available to us if we are renting points for a stay at OKW?

It seems like a good deal. We have DDE for now (and this next trip in a few days.) However after that I am going to give the new meal plan a try. :goodvibes )

I don't see the meal plan and DDE as mutually exclusive.

We love being able to buy DDE and will renew again this year although most likely with just one card as it will now be an extra $25 for the second card.

But we may try the dining plan for the DVC portion of one of our split stays. We could still use the DDE card for a bottle of wine or additional meals. I can envision using the counter service for some breakfasts, DDE for a nice lunch and the plan for dinner at a non signature restaurant. Or DDE for signature dinners and the plan for lunch. Or even branch out and try lunch at a few counter service spots. Take the desserts from "plan" meals back to the villa for an especially healthy breakfast. :rotfl:

At any rate, I do think it is great that DVC has been able to add this option.
