Disney Dining Plan 2012 has been published

Folks, these are not be the final brochures as they have not officially released their 2012 packages. Disney will continue to add locations. Usually the final brochures are done in December/January.

Are they likely to revise the final brochures and add the 2nd snack back into the QSDP? Or is it just restaurants that they will add to the list?

I ask because in the UK we have been able to book the free dining for 2012 since April and our brochures say the QSDP for 2012 is 2CS, 2 snacks and the mug and it has DDP as 1TS, 1CS, 1 snack and mug. We have booked with the QSDP expecting to get the 2 snacks as that is what our brochure says we should get, if Disney have changed it to 1 snack now do you think we should complain to our Travel Agent and see if we can get the 2nd snack added on? Seems a bit unfair that we have booked based on the info they have told us and now it looks like it has changed, it does say in the samll print that Disney can change the plan entitlements without prior notice.

If you were paying for the ddp, you would have major reason to complain. As you are getting so-called free dining, it's a bit harder. Still, it doesn't hurt to raise your voice. I'd suggest, that if in fact you will only be getting 1 snack per day, when you though you were getting 2... I suggest you request a Disney gift card for the difference $3 per night per person, or so.

Look at the date on the brochure. Its likely that you were reviewing the 2011 brochure even though you were booking for 2012.

There really is no point in cheering the addition of the mug to the dining plan in the absence of cost details. Heck for all we know the price might very well jump MORE than the cost of the mug! :rotfl2:

My hunch is that they want to justify a larger gap in price between QS and TS so that when people upgrade during free dining, they will have to pay more than the current, what...... $11? I also bet it will be closer to $15 or $20.

So does this brochure go into effect starting Oct. 1st? New fiscal year? Just making sure, we are going the last week of Sept on the QSDP, but if we don't get two snack credits I'm cancelling it, it's the extra snack that makes that plan worth it.

If you look at some of the other posts, other people have calculated about a ~$5 cost increase for the Dining Plan, ~$10 cost increase for the Deluxe Dining plan and no cost increase for the Quick Service Dining plan.

Per the brochures, this goes into effect with arrivals of 1/1/12 -12/31/12. This will be accurate for costs, but people have had problems as far as what is covered in the past when the arrived before 1/1 but were using the plan after 1/1.

To summarize
Quick Service Dining Plan - No $ change, lose 1 snack per night
Dining Plan -~$5 increase, gain 1 refillable mug for trip,
Deluxe Dining Plan - ~$10 increase

In addition to losing the 2nd snack on the Quick Service Dining plan, all of the plans are losing the "juice" from breakfast that used to be in addition to the "non-alcholic beverage".

I'm pretty sure they dropped the juice starting with this year's plan (2011) We just got back and used both DDP and QSDP. We didn't do any TS breakfast, but never got an extra juice with our CS breakfasts (unless we choose it as our main beverage, of course.)

They just continue to drop things from the plans...

On the other thread (which may end up being merged with this one, so this will look silly...) I did the calculations out for all levels of the dining plan.

The extra drink for breakfast was lost in 2011, so that doesn't come into account, but QSDP is losing a snack this year as mentioned.

QSDP pricing remains the same (34.99/11.99, no holiday pricing)
DDP jumps up $5.55/$3.03 for regular season to $51.54/$15.02, no additional increase for holiday (holiday gains +$2/+$1 just like this year.
DxDDP jumps up $6.53/$1.80 for regular season to $85.52/$23.79. In addition, holiday pricing now affects DxDDP as well adding an additional $4/$2 to the price (so $89.52/$25.79 for the holiday pricing).

It's pretty steep, especially for DDP where the percentage is all in the double digits (~12% for adult and 25% for child regular season) and the addition of holiday pricing to DxDDP is really going to hurt those who have to travel during those times.

I was just clicking on the 2012 package info and it starts with a 3 day park ticket. Is that the new minimum to get the package?

And do the kids still get their 'appetizers' with their meals?
Yes. The only changes (other than base price) are:

  • QSDP loses 1 snack per night
  • DDP gains refillable mug
  • DxDDP is affected by holiday pricing

1. Very interesting they are releasing the brochures so early -- especially since packages can't be booked until August. Will they release packages early this year?

2. Considering it is so early, possibly these plans are not final?

3. Removal of a snack from qsdp -- unless there is a price reduction, it is very hard to see value to the plan.

4. For people who don't use the mug much (including myself) -- if the mug is used as an excuse for a real increase to the ddp price, it can really destroy the true value of the ddp. Filling up on desserts, snacks and soda... But not offering any real value when it comes to real food.

Very good points, especially #4. I'm not a soda drinker either so I can care less about fountain drinks. I drink water.

I really think part of what was driving this was them wanting to increas the cost to UPGRADE from quick service to regular dining plan when free dining is offered. If they increased the price equally on both plans, the upgrade would not go up in cost. So they had to add something to the regular plan and take something from quick service, justifying the larger gap.

The mug is worthless to me as we are in the parks from early to late and are never in the room long enough to need to fill it!

I agree! I didn't use my mug that often because we were always in the parks. I prefer to drink water and not soda. We just got back two weeks ago. I tried to get a bowl of cold cereal with milk and they wanted to charge me two snack credits. Last year, the cereal and milk was only one snack credit. The cast member told me that changed Jan 2011.
