I have a weird question about the DDE -

When do you show them your card? At payment, or before the meal, or before they bring the check?

Sometimes I like to go back to my room, or go shopping, or whatever before dinner is over, but I'm the one that has the card. Can I show it at the beginning of the meal? Or can I give it to my sister to show when the check comes?

I'm all confused.

We told them about the card when it was time to pay the bill. At counter service you just give the card when you order & pay.

I always put the card in the book with my room key after I get the full priced bill. That way I can see the whole amount to base the tip on. (I suppose I could just do the math, but I digress.) If you need to leave early I am sure you could give them the card in advance.

At the sit down places, I put the card on top of the credit card and drivers license (when it was Fl residents only) when I was given the bill. At the few counter service places, I give it to them while ordering since they have a tendency to go too fast when ringing up the total.

Related question -- We're going with my in-laws, and for 2 dinners, we're eating separately. One night, we're taking the kids and they'll have a couples dinner out, and vice versa the next night. DH and I are the ones with the DDE cards (we have APs, they don't), so could we give them 1 of the cards to get the discount? I assume not but just wondering....

The name on the card must match the ID (be it FL resident ID or the name on your AP), so no, that won't work.

I called up the DDE line, and after being on hold for a while, got an "official" answer.

The way the DDE program is set up, you're supposed to present your card when *ordering.* As long as the person who has the card orders something, the discount should be in effect. If you forget to show it and then leave early, however, you're out of luck and no one else can use it.

I'm thinking of doing the annual pass and DDE card as well for my trip this summer. Here's my question. I know I only need one AP to get the DDE card, but does it have to be an Adult AP that I use to by teh DDE card? It's cheaper to buy a junior AP in my son's name and then pay for the DDE card. Secondly, someone earlier in this thread mentioned a DDE phone number. What is that or is central reservations? :confused3

schwenksvillemouse,

I don't think you can order the DDE card with a child AP. According to this: http://allearsnet.com/din/dde.htm the card member has to be 21 years of age or older.

When I was there last week, I usually told them when we were ordering that I had DDE and handed them the e-mail when they asked for dessert orders (figuring after that is when they total the bill). I forgot a couple times when ordering, it was no problem just giving them the e-mail before dessert.

When we were there in January several servers asked for the actual card when we were paying the bill. They'd say something like "if you can give me your dining card I'll apply the discount." Then they took the card with the credit card or room key and processed the bill.

Correct that DDE members must be 21 years of age or older.

I pull out my card right away, just in case there is anything they or I need to know! :goodvibes

Speaking of tipping...........
I am excited about the card because it will take care of the tip.
With the exception of the counter service, all I have to do is leave the discount, since it is 20% of totall bill!

We won't be upgrading our MYW passes until we get to FL in April. Am I able to get the DDE at that time as well? Or, must it be "ordered" and then sent to me?
If I can't get it in FL, and they do send an email, how long does it take to get? (the email that is)

I was thinking that I could check email somewhere and print it up to use while we are down there....

What do you all think?!

Pumpkinfish, I think I remember reading that you can order the DDE card once you get to WDW as long as it is Mon-Fri, as they are closed on the weekends. They will then fax the confirmation letter to your resort.

caribear- I certainly hope so!
I wonder at what point the DDE card pays for itself?? I am a big planner and want to make sure we aren't just throwing money out the window. I have heard only good things about the DDE, but I don't know if it is right for DH and myself....

Well, if you are getting the DDE card at the $50 AP holder price, then your break even point is $250. If you spend $250 in food and drink at the participating restaurants, then your discount would be $50. Anything over $250 is where you are actually saving money.

So....basically I can tell DH we will save more money, with the more we spend ;)

I was there last week and in 5 meals with 3 adults, we saved about $53. We ate at LeCellier, Prime Time (4 adults), Rose & Crown for lunch, Boma for breakfast, LTT for dinner. I used the e-mail confirmation, don't have the cards yet (ordered 1/24/05).
