disney dining experience

To the OP: You can only buy the DDE card if you are a Florida resident or Annual Passholder. (Just wanted to make sure you knew that requirement.)

As to the 18% automatic gratuity -- We will stick with our usual 20% minimum for good service. I think two adults, two college students, and a 7th grader ought to be able to figure out 2% of the undiscounted total.:rotfl:

Yep Eeyore's Pal, fortunately I am both Fl resident and AP holder so i'm good to go :thumbsup2 Thanx Everyone

If service is really good- we'll find a way for the server to benefit, but I guess Disney is doing this to provide parity with the DDP people who will no longer have the tip included (or the appetizer) in their plan. However, from what I seem to understand about the DDP- they don't have a 'mandatory tip' included in their bill next year like DDE members will.

DDP users will not have an automatic grautuity added to their DDP meal bill - UNLESS they are a party of 6 or more.

And the brochure for 2008 says that a gratuity MAY be added to off-plan items (like alcoholic drinks) that you pay for separately.

It is my understanding that Disney clarified their policy to state that the auto-grat is being added on when you use your DDE card, and that it is not completely across the board (whether you use your DDE or ). Am I wrong?

DDE automatic 18% regardless of party size and all other dining (plan or cash) over 5 guests.

I keep seeing people saying if you are unhappy with the service, just speak to the manager. What makes you think they can remove the service charge? I was told it's mandatory. That means it MUST be put on your check. I don't know if a manager has the authority to remove or adjust it.

Maybe I should have said 'automatic gratuity' instead of 'mandatory gratuity'. It seems to me that I saw the disclaimer at the bottom of the menus that stated '18% gratuity added for parties of 8 or more', but now it's down to 6 or more.

Is the party size change for all diners or just DDP/DDE participants?

I'm sure that the 'manager key' could be utilized to override the automatic gratuity in the computer....... but here's hoping that the service is not an issue.

You are right, DDE even sent out a clarifying email over the weekend to help clear up some of the confusion.

DDE - Auto Gratuity at TS and Lounge (for all party sizes)

No gratuity at CS locations

(it remains in effect for parties of 6 or more at all TS - regardless of how you're paying)

*Flower* - Hope this helps
