My son just purchased an annual pass and is considering the DDE. My question is - do you get a 20% discount at all participating restaurants for any meal and any day of the week (except holidays, etc.)? I was reading about it on All Ears and it said something about only a 10% discount at certain restaurants during lunch on monday thru friday. A few of the restaurants we have ADRs at for our upcoming trip were listed under the 10% lunch discount (Whispering Canyon, Coral Reef, Chefs de France).

Yes, the DDE offers the 20% is at participating restaurants anytime (except holidays). The 10% off is an Annual Passholder discount, which is different than the DDE card.

We have the DDE and have saved well over the cost of the card. It was a valuable investment for us.

The 10% is an annual passholder discount. That is separate from DDE. It is available to annual passholders whether they have purchased a DDE membership or not.

DDE is always a 20% discount on any bill at any participating restaurant on any day except for the 8 blackout dates. You will also get an automatic 18% gratuity added on anything you order with DDE at TS restaurants and bars/lounges.

Yes, 20% at the listed restaurants, including alcoholic beverages.

Great deal, but keep in mind, any restaurant/bar can deny it at any time just because they want to. The only place this has ever happened to us is Victoria Falls at AKL.

I have had this happen at Victoria Falls also...I think they do not want to retrieve a manager to approve the discount. The managers are stationed downstairs at Jiko and they don't want to have to try and get one to come upstairs.

If I want a drink at AKL, I go to the Jiko bar now. They have no difficulty with DDE.

We are thinking of buying the DDE card when we go in December. What are the 8 blackout dates that you mentioned?

I believe the blackout dates are: January 1, Easter Sunday, Mother's Day (second Sunday in May), July 4, Thanksgiving Day (fourth Thursday in November), December 24, December 25, and December 31.

We did purchase the DDE on our May trip. One thing I did not realize or we would have purchased it at the start is that CS is included at the Values as well as AK. We were staying at ASMu so we did make good use of the card.
