Disney Dining Experience Card?

I could be totally remembering this incorrectly, but...

I seem to think that a few years ago, you could get the Disney Dining Experience Card simply by being a DVC Member. Now, I know that the year we got this card, we also had an annual pass (which I'm aware is a way to get the card), so I could be totally in left field here (and since allearsnet doesn't list DVC as an option to get the card I think I may be). That being said, does anyone know if DVC members can get the card without an annual pass?

Thanks in advance!

The DDE is not associated with DVC. You have to be an annual passholder or FL resident.

You need an AP - sometimes its worth having an AP just for the DDE (it will be for us this trip).

Ok...thanks to you both. I knew that the DDE wasn't associated with DVC, but for some reason, I thought that perhaps being a DVC member gave you the ability to purchase the card.

No DVC perk here, but keep in mind that you only need one DDE card, so you only have to buy one AP -- and there's a $100 DVC discount on that. With one DDE card, you can get the 20% discount for up to ten diners at any meal where the card is accepted.

There's ten of us (nearly all adults) going down for ten days, so there's no doubt that we're going to get the card...it was just a matter of whether one of us had to buy an annual pass or not. The extra $100 or so for the annual pass will be worth it after 3 or 4 meals.

We bought the DDE card this year for our trip, 6 adults and saved at least $275 by using this as opposed to the DDP. Mainly because it is 20% off the entire bill including drinks.

Our total charging privileges bill was less than DDP would have been for the 6 of us. Plus we had gifts and stuff on the charges, not all food. It was a great savings.

With the DDE Card dont they add tip on to your bill when using this card? If so what is the percent of the tip?

Thank you

18%. So it functionally pays for your tip and gives you a very small discount on top of that. Since the DDE is presented at the end of the meal, you are getting service from someone who doesn't know they are assured a tip.

We would have tipped around there anyway.

I totally agree!! We have had problems with the service being subpar when we used the DDP. We purchased the DDE for our January trip and our service was WONDERFUL! We did not mind the 18% tip added to our bill, sometimes service was just outstanding that we gave more!
