Disney dine and dash: Police say man didn't pay lounge tab

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say a man has made Walt Disney World his happiest place on Earth for dining and dashing.

Fifty-one-year-old Jerry Moody was arrested Tuesday after the manager of a lounge at Disney's Contemporary Resort says he racked up a $92 bar tab and tried to leave without paying.

The Orlando Sentinel says that according to an arrest report, a waitress recognized him as fitting the description of a man who tried to do the same thing at another lounge the previous night.

Both lounges are on Disney property but not inside the theme park. Many Disney restaurants and lounges don't require admission fees.

Police say Moody acknowledged that he shouldn't be at the resort but told detectives he likes to go to Disney World.

Reports show Moody's been arrested on Disney properties five times.

He's being held on a $5,100 bond. The newspaper says Disney had no comment.

The bigger story is not dine and dash but he has been doing it for 10 years according to the local media . . . .

One of the articles I read said he was charged with "Defrauding an innkeeper". That law must have been on the books for a long time.

Yah, did Florida ever even use the word innkeeper? With it being a newer state and all.

Not sure why folks are seeing this as an out of date term. Let's see there's Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn, Comfort Inn, Days Inn, Residence Inn to name a few.

Ok, being a hotelier, in the business the term innkeeper is a genetic term to cover everything from resorts, hotels, motels, lodges and to yes even inns. A lot easier for the law to use a generic term and then define it in the definitions and regulations sections of the law.

As for this guy, he apparently is well known on International Drive and had been trespassed by Disney. Really time for the court to get his attention with a stiff sentence.

Since St. Augustine, Fl is the country's oldest city, I'd say that Florida has been around long enough to use words such as 'innkeeper.'

It's definitely an old city. However, it only purports to be the oldest continuously occupied city in the US. There were cities in what is now New Mexico that have been there before most Westerners explored North America, at least the US part. I still think of the Bible or Medieval times when I think of an innkeeper though:rotfl:However, as others have pointed out, it's not really that old fashioned of a word.

Rumor has it he tried to escape on his horse but the constable was able to cut off his escapade

OK, how about you not serve $92 worth of drinks before getting payment or a credit card to hold... and not serve more than a few drinks per person so as not to encourage drunken patrons?

A Bar Tab can include food. If he was alone he was probably sitting at the bar, therefore had a Bar tab. If you are planning on not paying, why not get a Steak to go along with your drinks.

edit:
I just re-read it and it says lounge so maybe I am all wet.
It says he admits he shouldn't be there. I thought anyone can go into any WDW hotel and use the Bars and Restaurants.

Tell me they have a video of this incident. I love seeing drunks get wrestled to the ground.

He had been "tresspassed by WDW" and should not have been on property. You can certainly use the lounges at any of the resorts unless Disney has you on their "naughty list".
