I am. My parents are coming for the first time. I'm feeling quite a bit of pressure, as my father is pretty hard to please with his turkey. However, he really doesn't have much room to talk. 2 years ago we went to their house, and the turkey looked gorgeous! Until you cut into it. The top half was cooked, but the bottom half was raw. I mean RAW! Then, the same year at Christmas, he did another turkey. Picture the turkey from "Christmas Vacation." That's exactly what happened. He cut into it, and there was nothing but air under the skin. The meat was so dried out it had shrivelled away. Then last year, at Thanksgiving, another half raw turkey. I figure that if my turkey is at least cooked all the way through, I'm beating his average.

I guess a lot of the pressure I'm feeling comes from the fact that I won't be able to eat much of the dinner. I'm doing ALL the cooking, but won't be able to eat more than 3 Tbs. of turkey and 1 Tbs. of yams. Oh well. I'm making a sugar free pumpkin pie for dessert since mom is a diabetic, so at least I'll be able to scrape a bite of filling to taste. Sometimes I wonder what I did to myself, having the gastric bypass. Then I look in the mirror and remember. I'm 26 pounds down in 3 weeks. Not too shabby!

Good for you. It's nice to hear success stories.

Deb

It's so nice to have a support group with my Dis family! You honestly don't know how much it means to me to have you all on my side. :grouphug:

Kate - I thought about ordering a dinner, or taking everyone to a restaurant, but my pride kicked in. I just HAVE to do this. I have to prove to myself that I can still cook a kick butt dinner for my family even if I can't eat it myself.

Denise - You are going to have the best time! Thanksgiving with family and then going to the World. What could be better than that. Thank heaven you got the kids all feeling better.

My situation is really kind of funny. I never feel very hungry. But I really miss eating like I used to. I think tonight and tomorrow will be the hardest. We do a thing on both sides of my family called Pie Night. Everyone makes 2 or 3 pies and we all get together and sample them. Our belief is that everyone stuffs themselves on Thanksgiving and leaves no room for pie, so we eat ours beforehand. I LOVE to make pies, so I plan on still doing that. It's sure going to be hard to watch everyone else enjoying my pies, and not be able to taste them. However my DSIL (she had the surgery 5 years ago) is planning on making sugar free, low carb pies for tonight, so I'll have something to nibble. What a good sister!

Honestly, though, I'm doing really well! I just keep reminding myself why I did this. If that means I have to sacrifice one holiday season of eating, so be it!

Thanks again, everyone for all your support. You truly are my family!

I can relate about moving desks. We had to do that about every three months. I had a lot of stuff, so I would just move the drawers, the keyboard, (mine was clean) and other stuff. Everyone knew not to touch my stuff :rotfl:

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one who did that, I take my keyboard, mouse and phone receiver! MY GERMS thank you!

I have neighbors now, and I do not like that part. I like my peace and quiet! I AM glad we did be now, woulda stunk to come back from vacation and see someone else did it!

Has anyone ever successully located their kids on & off switches? Cause if so - I would pay a lot of money for that information - I can't get mine to go to sleep and if I could just turn them off...

:rotfl: nyquil :rotfl: knocks her out! Boy she HATES it too! (No I never did that just to shut her off, but it would of worked!)

We are going to Michigan to Thanksgiving. Leaving tonight.....Tuesday.....around 6pm and traveling thru the night. The boys travel better that way and my husband and I take turns. I am concerned about the snow coming in on Wednesday.....I hope we don't get stuck there. Be sure to keep us in your prayers and send us lots of pixie dust. Thanks guys.....and I will check back and see how much I have missed on Sunday. Lynn

Yea, if you ever do find that "off" button, PM me fast! Whew..I am getting to old for this! :rotfl2: My DD (who will be 10) had a screaming match as she got ready for school & in the car on the way...I hate when we leave like that, she didn't want a kiss..I planted one on her anyway... :teeth:

Welcome back!

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year. Me, DH, our 3 kids, my mom, MIL, DH's brother, wife & their 3 kids & her mom. DH cooks the turkey..he puts butter & seasoning under the skin & it comes out delish! Way better than how I make it. I'll do all the sides. Guests are bringing dessert but I am making 2 pies & cookies anyway so there is enough just in case.
I won't be on the PC tom'w & through Friday so I wanted to say a

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL MY FELLOW DIS-ER'S & THEIR FAMILIES!!!"

Hope you all have a wonderful turkey-day & fun shopping for all those who dare to go on black friday!

Hey, hang in there! That surgery is a big one, give yoursef credit for what you are doing for yourself. Just know, long term, you will be soooo happy! :)

ANyone see oprah's favorite things 2005, yesterday? I missed it :( but went on the website and saw she had a face cream there. I ordered it! I just LOVE a good skin care for the face! Hope its as good as she says! You should see ebay, that product is going like hot cakes :rotfl:

Hope this was a somewhat helpful answer.

Thanks Beth - we have corn oil, groundnut oil, vegetable oil (rapeseed) which are light and flavourless - I think that is what we're looking for here :goodvibes we don't hae canola but I think its similar

OK I need to catch up.
I'm on page 877 post 13141.
Here's the up-date with DH.
He went out Fri after work before I got home.
Comes home @ 10:30 P.M.
He goes out Sat night while I'm in the shower.
I ask DS if he said where he's going.
DS says DH went to DSD house to visit a friend from out of town.
I know he has lied.
I talk to DSD he doesn't.
He doesn't know I talk to her.
So I go looking for him.
I didn't find him.
I go home.
Call him 3x's before he answers.
I told him that I was done with his actions.
He hung up on me.
I called back many times left many messages.
Jammed up his cell.
He didn't come home that night.
Sun A.M I go looking for him again.
Found him @ his work says he slept there.
Talked & yelled back & forth.
Finally agreed to go home & talk.
I said what I needed, wanted & what I would & wouldn't put up with.
He did the same.
He has agreed to start talking & make changes.
Talked together with DS let him know there was going to be a
lot of changes made for the better.
I told him that I had papers ready to file if changes were not made NOW!!
If by any means he goes back to what it was.
I will file & relocate.
Yes to Atlanta area.
I did a lot of research I really like this area.
I want to thank everyone for the Pixie Dust :grouphug: Prayers.
I know I wouldn't have made it through this without you all.

I've got to catch up too Brendita, but just wanted to give you a supportive :grouphug: and hope that everything works out for you and DH. sometimes, change is good. I hope you can work things out and end up with a stronger marriage. :grouphug:

This is totally OT, but I really need the help of our creative DDA's.

I need ideas for DS's birthday party. All of you Northerners please don't laugh at me :) .

Anyway, his birthday is in February (he'll be 5) and we're having a snow party. A company brings a machine and blows snow on the ground. This is more than I would normally spend on a party so I need cheap ideas for favors, decorations, etc (especially favors).

This is what I have so far:

I'm making a snowman cake and we'll have cake and hot chocolate. I'm putting out marshmallows, crushed peppermints and whipped cream in the can for the hot chocolate.

I'm thinking about putting a white tablecloth on the cake table and then using snowmen and fake snow to go down the middle. I'm hoping to find snowman plates, napkins, etc. (that don't have anything Christmas on them) on clearance after Christmas. I'll also get blue, white and maybe silver balloons. I can also decorate with snowflakes cut out of paper.

We'll make snow angels, have snowball fights, and maybe a few other games.

For favors the ideas I've had or have been suggested to me are:

chapstick (cool, flavored)
slipper socks
snowmen cups with straws
cutting scarves out of fleece
stickers/pencils with snowmen

What do ya'll think of this and do you have anything you would change or add? I really need cute, cheap ideas for favors. We rarely get snow, so I'm really excited about the party. DS can't stop talking about it and it's still 3 months away!

We're inviting girls and boys, ranging mainly from 4-6 years old. I'd really like to give the same favors to girls and boys, so I'm hoping for ideas that are gender neutral.

I know everyone is busy and getting ready for Thanksgiving, but I'd appreciate any ideas or suggestions ya'll could give!!!

How about getting those tree decorations (clear perspex balls) you can put a picture in, and put a cute pic from one of these brilliant designers in like "snowy birthday party" - just a quick thought as I'm off to bath my boys, but if I have any brainwaves I'll get back to you

It will be my DH, me, DS, DS, DD, DSIL. DDIL, two grandboys, DBIL and his two grown childern and one SIL and one girlfriend. plus of course Oma and Opa. And any friends and other relatives who happen to pop in.
We will also do our requests for Secret Santa and have everyone pick a name out of a hat. We will have two or three items to choose from for our person.

It is always great fun

If I remember correctly, rapeseed and canola are the same thing. That would be my choice.

When I go home for Thanksgiving, I'll have to ask my mom for her Chex Mix recipe. We haven't had it in a long time.

Beth

I will be thinking of ya'll on BF running around, fighting traffic, fighting crowds and standing in long lines. I am finally using a gift certificate from my DD and DDIL and am going to a spa for a Teaser Day...Mini Massage, pedicure, facial, and manicure. I will probably just glide home :rotfl: :rotfl:

I would also suggest mittens, but not necessarily to wear. You can cut mitten shapes out of felt and whip stitch them together with yarn. They would make a cute decoration/party favor and could be used as a Christmas Decoration next year. You could also get small pail/shovel sets. These are great for making snow castles or snow forts. Up here in the north we can find dies for snow to create colorful snowmen or just paint the snow.

we are expecting snow tonight through Friday so I'm trying to think of things my kids would have fun with. I'll post if I think of more.
