Disney Depression

My family and I came back on Labor Day after a wonderful 8 days of family fun. We were sorta bummed but got back in the swing of things with the boys starting back to school etc. We have already started thinking of next years trip. But to really beat the disney depression blues I turn to what else but the DISBOARDS. I love reading about people getting ready to go or those who have come back. I get all excited to hear about the trips. :goodvibes

It hit me this year right after we got back from our trip (8/11-8/17/06), especially because DH had said that we weren't going back until 2008. I was unbelievably depressed, which surprised me a lot because I've never felt that way after any family vacation before this one. I waited about a month, and then I cornered him and told him that I *had* to have something to look forward to, and a trip to Disney in 2007 was it. He actually agreed to go, and I booked it right away before he could change his mind!

I don't know that we'll be able to go every year.....at some point, we have to put more into saving for the kids to go to college than we are right now. Wow, thinking about not being able to go in 2008 is depressing me as I type this..........guess I better stop thinking about that and focus on next year's trip!

if you don'y mind me asking you, why are you all waiting 5 years in between trips. Is it money or something else.

I got back on the 8th of Oct and I'm really feeling depressed now. I get really emotional about it, especially when I see those new commercials! I can't believe it's over! My husband doesn't do Disney and he just doesn't get it. He asked me if it was out of my system yet. I try to explain to him how planning a vacation to Disney gives me so much happiness but he'll never understand. He doesn't expect me to go ever again, but I'm planning to go in another 2 years hopefully. That's how long it takes me to save up, a little at a time. I envy those of you that have someone who shares your love for Disney! I think we should start a support group for post Disney depression. ;)

Hi! I just posted on another thread about 5 min. ago. We were at wdw in May and I have been depressed ever since we got home :sad2: But it really got bad when I learned that my DD booked a trip for her family (without the rest of the family this time!) for Nov. and her twin DD's are going in April '07 with their school band. So, after long thought, diliberation, and redoing our nonexistant budget :rotfl2: my DH, DD, DGD, DGS and I are planning on going back next Oct. We haven't booked yet. We are waiting to see if another DD is going with us. But, I'm no longer depressed  WDW is better than anything a doctor can prescribe :lmao: Now I just need to have my DGD help me change the pictures on my posts.

How sad is this. Even though are trip is still 3 months off I felt that first bit of post WDW depression today. We are going for 5 nights and will have 4 full days for the parks. I’m in the process of putting together a more concrete itinerary. As I listed out which parks we are going to on which days the inevitable end of the trip hit me in the face. Especially when I realized that our visit to MK would be on Tuesday and there is the possibility we wouldn’t set foot in there again for another couple of years. I have to admit I will not be depressed about the trip getting closer and am very excited about it but I hate that feeling of knowing the end is right around the corner.

Even though it has been about 4 years since our last trip to WDW the time has gone by quickly. Planning is the best way to feel like your next trip is right around the corner. We technically started planning for this trip 2 ½ years ago. If you have something on the calendar to look forward to, even if it is 5 months or 50 years away at least you can tell people you are going back and it won’t feel so far away. I try to read the DIS Boards when I get a chance and order copies of the latest planning videos. Anything to stay in touch with what is happening down there.

We take two one week trips a year. One of the weeks is always to the same place (our favorite vacation spot and what we feel to be our second home) so that leaves the second week to try different places. WDW is my dream vacation but not my DH's so we have to take turns. We figured every 5 years would give us enough time to save LOTS of money so we can go and have a blast and not have to worry how we are paying for it. I want to be able to go shop, shop, shop!!!! It is what we agreed on and that is fine with me but it sure is going to take a long time to come around again. I enjoy going to our other destinations also and as soon as I get a few more weeks....OK months away from this past trip I will feel better.

Well I'll get there before you - my dates are March 2011!

We can do the long countdown together!!!! I will be thrilled for you when your trip comes around because that means I only have 6 months to go!!

Once a year - each July. The rest of the time I avoid depression by remembering things that we did and planning what we will do next year.

Wow, you sound just like me.....
We were there in June for a week and had too much fun. We planned on returning in June, 2008. I got home and was horribly depressed, even with a beach trip to look forward to and the whole summer off - we're both teachers. It was still impossible to not think about disney and wanting to return. The school year started and I still went to the Disboards every day and talked about the trip with anyone who would listen. Three weekends ago we were stuck in the house with strep throat and we were all depressed. I said I wish we were in Disney right now, and my husband said to go book it for next June. I didn't ask twice, went and booked for June 22, 2007. Now I am in planning mode and can't wait till December to book our ADR's. If I had to wait for 2008, I don't know what I would have done. I'm a much happier person now looking forward to returning in June.

I thought it would get easier as the days passed from June, but it really didn't. From reading everyone else's posts - for us "big kids" I guess that's normal. Welcome to the club!

I am in a perpetual state of planning and that helps ... a little.
The same for me. If I am always planning then it helps. I don't have the dates for our next trip but I have a list of places I want to eat this next trip. :) It helps to know that we will go again.

We bought into the DVC, and now plan 4 trips per year! so the only time I really have the disney blues is the time between spring and fall, as summer is too hot and crowded to be there! (i'm lying...i get the blues all the time because DD lives in FL, works for Disney, and here I am up north in NY....miss her terribly) The good news is my next trip is in 11 days...can't wait! Get to see my Darling Daughter, MNSSHP, Food & Wine, cooler temps (not hot, not cold), less lines!

I too am a sufferer of Disney depression. It generally kicks in a day or two after I leave and lasts until I schedule another trip. I go every January and as soon as we come back we begin to look into where we want to stay the next year and tend to schedule our next trip in March. Then I have the rest of the year to plan and stay on this board. It's sad, I know, but Disney is my life!!

I wish I could force myself to wait more than a year in between trips. We could stay at the really pricey places, but I cannot wait more than a year!! I just can't.

Count me in too. I'm so depressed since we got home. I so want to go back next year, but DH said not until 2008. I've already started secretly planning.

We've gone five years in a row, & our last trip included the Disney cruise. It was the trip of a lifetime. Now it appears it will be as much as three :faint: years till we go again!

I may be taking my HS band over spring break, but that ain't the same as me & DW staying at BCV for a week!
