In your opinion do you believe that Disney's Deluxe hotels are on equal footing with 5-star hotels in other parts of the country (world)?

Before you answer some things to consider are customer service, amenities, overall ambiance, cleanliness, dining, concierge services, and consistency. Maybe a few other factors I'm not thinking of but what do you think?

Yes and no. They are not five star hotels, and never claim to be. They are four diamond (AAA rating) or three star (Mobil rating). So you are comparing apples to oranges.

They do not offer the luxury, service, cleanliness, etc. of a true five star/diamond hotel. Generally speaking they are about on par with other large hotels with the same rating though.

I don't think they are 5 star quality. You pay for the ambience and location next to Disney. The rooms are sub par to many 4 star I've stayed in at different cities. I think the downfall is the size/luxury of the rooms!

No, I don't think they are 5 star. They only claim to be "Disney Deluxe" not Mobil 5 star. I am not sure but would guess that the only 5 star in Orlando area is the Ritz Carlton.

Mobil only gives that one four stars. Not sure what AAA rates it, it *might* get five diamonds.

There are NO 5 stars hotels in Orlando. The Peabody and Ritz both get 4 stars.

Disney deluxe resorts are definately not equal to any higher rated resorts we have stayed at. They lack quality in bedding and ammenities. Room cleanliness is always below the standards I expect.

You are paying for the convenience of being on disney property, other than that..disney resorts just get by.

The Grand Floridian is, of course, the closest, but doesn't stand a chance in the comparison because, of all things, it allows non-resort guests to roam their grounds freely. To be 5-star, they'd have to shut the place down to folks staying at other resorts or off-site.

I respectfully disagree. While I will agree that the term "5-star" is never used, imho they advertise and hold themselves out to be at that caliber of hotel.

As far as being on par with other hotels of same rating...well ok. Try to imagine these hotels being located outside of Disney in an ordinary setting. Would that change your opinion?

No. If I'm staying in a Hampton Inn that's three diamonds, the experience is going to be about the same as a WDW moderate. If I'm staying at a Hilton that is four diamonds, the experience is going to be about the same as a WDW deluxe. I don't believe that WDW advertises in any way that they are a five star (or even diamond) type hotel. I think the GF at times might be perceived that way, but that's guest opinion as opposed as their marketing.

I also think that a lof of people who visit WDW and are WOWED by the resorts don't travel much and thus have little to compare to. If you normally travel once a year to visit the kin a few states over and stay in a roadside motel on the way, of course you will be wowed. But if you travel regularly and stay in higher end properties such as Fairmont, Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, W, etc., I think most people have limited expectations of WDW resorts. I think that sophisticated travelers have tempered expectations based on guidebook information rather than WDW markingting propoganda.

Anne,

My mother and I were discussing this very topic the other day. During my childhood we stayed at the Four Seasons almost every summer and had a fabulous time. Private fancy cabins (not like FW), six swimming pools, six upscale restaurants, private golf course, tennis courts, lake, ect, ect made for a wonderful vacation.

However now – give me the WL any day

It is simply a completely different experience and I don’t think you can compare it to other types of hotels. All I can say to this is LOCATION, LOCATION, and LOCATION. Oh, and of course being immersed in the themeing from the moment one walks in until time to depart

My advice to others is to go to the WDW with an open mind and enjoy it for what it is a way to be part of the Magic your entire stay.

Have a magical day,

Minnie

No, but they are like rooms on a cruise ship - they provide good enough rooms, good enough service, and good food for a good value given the value of location!

You are totally correct.
I often stay at 4 or 5 star hotels so the deluxes do not interest me.
The deluxes do offer great views and sometimes alternate means of transportation for people who are willing to pay the high prices.
