Disney Deluxe Dining Plan Question

Okay, so I'm not new to Disney or staying onsite. I am however, new to the dining plan. I have a few questions.

My husband and I want to do the Deluxe Dining plan. Mostly because we don't want to have to worry about paying for food once we get there. We planned to have everything paid for before we leave.

We don't plan on renting a car. Using Disney transportation.

Well, we want to spend 2 days doing things outside of Disney. So, while we will technically be checked into the hotel for 8 days, we won't need tickets for all 8 days. 5 maybe six at the most.

So, my questions is this. Is the Disney Dining plan based on the number of days that you are checked into the hotel or the number of days that you have park tickets for?

Sorry for the crazy questions, but we haven't ever used the dining plan and I know that this is the best place to ask.....

If you are not going to be at Disney for two days I personally wouldn't get the deluxe because then you will have an extra 6 credits that you wouldn't use on the days you will be at Disney...unless you eat dinner at resorts those nights you won't be at Disney.

We are getting the regular dining plan and we are going to Universal two days so we have two extra days of credits to use and that is a lot of food!

Just my opinion though. Because if you want to do signature restaurants you can use the extra credits from the days you wont be at Disney(at least for two signatures).
