Disney Day of Service

Did you get to the page where it showed what you signed up for and then all of your volunteers and then you had to put a check into the date you selected and a check mark next to all the volunteers for that date of service.

no I never got that far to get that info... I'll keep trying !!! ugg....

I found a project I want to do but am having a hard time registering. I'll keep trying. It's going to involve decorating cookies and making Valentine's Day cards for the elderly. Sounds fun!

Not too many opportunities for our family. We did sign up for Project Linus and our confirmation e-mail states that we will be contacted within 5 days. If it wasn't for this opportunity, it looked like we had to drive over an hour for the next location...I doubt that we will use the tickets, but what the heck :goodvibes

There are only 1 million tickets available thru this promotion. By signing up and NOT using the tix (which expire in Dec) you could be taking away from a family that could really use the tix.

I am sure you can find plenty of family volunteer activities without using this promotion. Just my .02

It took me over an hour to get through the website and sign up. It kept making me retype my info or it wouldn't even load the page.

There was a ton near me (NE Ohio) but most only allowed adults and just a few allowed 14 and up. I didn't see any for ages 6 and up.

There were only a few opportunities for my direct city. All of the other opportunities took me either to another city almost 2 hours away or another STATE! Doesn't that defeat the purpose of volunteering to help in your community?

I am very dissappointed in what there is to choose from. There is one opportunity in my city that DD7 could participate in and it requires a TWO year commitment to do work 4 to 6 times a year. Not that this is a bad thing, just not what I was expecting.

Also, I was surprised that there wasn't anything to do work for agencies such as the United Way, Salvation Army / Rescue Missions or our local Habitat projects. Unless things get added, I guess we won't be getting our free ticket. :sad1:

The only two volunteer options in my area, required that you either have a nursing background, or be a Certified Financial Planner. Nothing in our state for DD7.

There's a volunteer position in Denver (35 minutes away) but you must be over 55, and there's dumb friends league positions (I have severe pet allergies).

I do a bit of volunteer work; I help non profits with website design/maintenance and graphic design. Unfortunately the only reward from those activities is warm fuzzies. :goodvibes

well they have added more oppts since this am, but STILL can't get the darn pages to load right!

Does anyone know for the ones that want you to put together bags (there is one for us, that wants you to put together 100 valentine goody bags) is that total 100 or 100 per family member??

alot of ours require you to purchase the things that could get pricey for us as a family of 5 in our own financial situation.

Can't get on the site. Before I forgot to log in first, and sw only 1 opportunity within 45 miles....funny though, the others, some "technically closer" would be across the sound to reach Ct, LOL:rotfl2: too funny......

Good Luck all, what a WONDERFUL way to get some VOLUNTEERS!!!!

Unless you have the intention, like I was considering, of donating the tickets. That too is an option...

It took all day, but both DH and I were finally able to sign up.

I am voluteering at a thrift store that benefits childrens charities. Definitely something I will consider doing even after I get the free ticket.

I'm excited to see Project Linus as an option in my area. My DD spent a week in NICU when she was born (9 years ago today!) and received a blanket. It feels like coming full circle to pick this opportunity.

Fleece can be very inexpensive if you catch a sale. JoAnns and other fabric stores seem to have it on sale every few weeks.

I can't get any of this to load right!~

I did notice on the side print, that it said to make sure you went to Hands on Network site to finish registering or something, or it wouldn't be complete.. but when I go to that website it just takes you back to disney's site?? am I missing something??

mickeymomof three... do you remember about how much it costs to make a blanket??

If Project Linus accepts fleece blankets (the group we went through was different so I don't know the rules for sure) then you can make them very inexpensively. Fleece goes to $1 a yard at the end of the season at Walmart, and even if you want to get started sooner, use a 40% off coupon at JoAnns. We made them severla times for like $2 each.

A lot of time what you do with Disney is non-transferable so make sure you can donate them before you go.

Donate your free ticket to one of the select non-profit organizations designated by Disney Parks:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern California
Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida
Dreams Take Flight Canada

Those of you feeling frusterated, remember that new things will be added often. The onles listed now are only for in the next 60 days. If you don't see something in your area or that you can help with, check back. We are excited to have found work with Angel Food Ministries. We wanted to work at a soup kitchen but plan to on our own anyway, and this is close so we took it. But more will come along for sure.

May I please ask, once you sign up and volunteer on your specified date, how long does it take to receive your ticket?
Say for instance, I volunteered in February, would I have my ticket in time for my March trip?
Thank you.

This response is from the FAQ's section:
How soon after I complete my volunteer service can I expect my service to be verified to receive a free ticket?

Most Guests can expect to receive verified confirmation via email from Disney within 2 weeks. You may receive a "thank you" communication from your volunteer organization before that time, but you will need to receive verification of your service from Disney.

Also, everybody needs to read all the FAQ's section. Here's one of the restrictions:

When is my free Disney theme park ticket valid for use? Are there any dates I can't use my ticket?

Your voucher for a free ticket to enter one of the Disney Theme Parks may be redeemed through December 15, 2010, and must be redeemed and used on the same day. Please note, however, that on the following days, you will not be allowed to redeem your voucher for a free ticket:

◦Walt Disney World® Resort: March 29 - April 8 and July 4, 2010
◦The Disneyland® Resort: February 13-14, March 21, June 21-22, July 4, November 21, December 11-12, 2010.

"must be redeemed and used on the same day"

Does this mean vouchers can't be printed ahead of time once everything is completed? :confused3

The only thing here that my boys can do is to stuff envelopes and flyers for a Senior Citizen organization. Which is fine, but they didn't state how many hours will be required. I don't think any of us can sit and stuff for 8 hours in one day, I am hoping we can do it a couple of hours on different days. I am waiting for contact from the organization.

Did someone mention an alternative to the tickets- I think I read Fast passes on this thread? We have APs so this may not be something we can even use.

Unless we can use it towards renewing our APs. Does anyone know where to find details like this?

I work for a charity that is signed up for this. Our Director of Development who set up the projects indicates that the tickets may not be upgradeable to multi-day tickets at all-- that they may be 1day/1park only-- so for example if you're going for 7 days, you can use this for 1day/1park but then you have to buy a 6 day park ticket at regular price for six days. She had inquired about a month ago for clarification from Disney but has not received any clarification at all. (so if you're going just one day, great, but if you're going for 7 days its not worth much to you---not that everyone shouldn't volunteer, all the charities need the volunteers!)

Can someone with Disney clarify this?
