I wonder if this will extend beyond the parks into the hotels, campground, services areas as well.

Disney Offers Buyouts To 600 Executives
Company May Consider Layoffs

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Walt Disney Co. said on Wednesday that it is offering buyouts to 600 executives in its U.S. theme parks and resorts to reduce costs.

The offer includes 313 managers at Disney World in Orlando, Leslie Goodman, executive vice president of worldwide public affairs in Disney's parks and resorts division, said in a statement.

The 600 managers have until Feb. 6 to decide if they want to take the buyout.

The company will then decide if it needs to consider layoffs. Disney did not say how many jobs they may eliminate.

Considering the number of cast members is closing in on 60,000 at WDW alone, I dont see it having much impact. I am sure the managers at top pay will be easily replaced by kids fresh out of college with no experience, for a lot less money.

We have seen a number of cuts around the entire resort. Live performances have been closed, or # of shows reduced. Nightly fireworks displays are no longer 'nightly'. On our last trip to Trails End for breakfast we noticed the pineapple was missing. We mentioned it to our server. She rattled off a number of items that had been removed form the menus. She felt it was all in an effort to reduce cost. Same price for the buffet, with less offered. Same price to get in the parks, with less offered for the price of admission.

I don't know if this is a response to an actual drop in profits, preparing for lean times ahead, or using the pretense of bad economy to make cuts that will help keep shareholders happy.
