Not sure I agree with that statement. EMH is alive but I wouldn't say it's too healthy. I really felt an effect on my touring plans when evening EMH went from 3 hours to 2 hours. There has also been a steady decline in the number of days/parks when both AM and PM EMH are offered.

I'm just a newbie here planning our once-in-a-lifetime trip to WDW, but FWIW, currently there are NO evening EMH scheduled at MK during our trip. We are staying a full week, and part of the reason we got park hoppers was to take advantage of these late EMH we had heard so much about. We are staying at AKL Oct. 29 - Nov. 5, and every Wednesday before our week has evening EMH, but ours has nothing until check-out day (when we will be driving home).

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel like I need to cancel, or that we should just "not go" - I'm sure it will be a great trip - but it is a little disappointing.

I won't argue economics here. But I will point out facts. The facts are the housing market has seen a major upswing-even after the rate increase. The car business has seen a major upswing- 2015 was a record year. The travel industry has seen an upswing. And so on and so on. I mean seriously who would have thought that Lululemon would show such record profits, in staggering percentages, while charging $98 for yoga pants!!

People are spending money again. The proof is in the facts of all of these numbers.

The chart supplied by the pp is also a fact. Median income is down. A segment of the population may be spending more money either because they have more disposable income or feel comfortable spending money again. There may also be an increase in the number of people utilizing credit. An increase in spending does not necessarily mean that most people are now making more money.

The EMH days for your trip will be updated closer to your trip...which is why they aren't showing right now, but they will be there. The MK does 2 evenings per week I believe.

Have a wonderful time on your trip!!!!!! Hopefully another will be added!

That will hopefully change for you. They mess with the hours all the time.

Yes, some people are spending money again. Probably the ones in the stock market. Because that segment of the population has done very well.

But when the median income is going down, you have a problem.

And the official "unemployment rate" might be down, but the workforce participation is down near where it was before women even entered the workforce. That seems quite noteworthy to me.
It is not only people who play the market who have more money to spend...or same money but more confidence to spend it. If that were the case you would not see these numbers across the board. I'm not saying everyone is rolling in money. I'm stating that based on reports people are spending again, in record proportions.

...... on ever lower median incomes and record low labor participation rates. The figures I'm talking about are nationwide, not specific to certain industries.

Right. But regardless, a nationwide recession is determined by all of those industries. When consumer spending is low, when unemployment is high, an economy struggles.
Neither of these is the case right now.
Has everyone recovered? No.
But we have a new generation in the mix who were not hit by it. And we have people who were frightened to spend their money now spending it. We have people who suffered a job loss now working again and able to spend money again.
So as a nation we have shown vast improvement.

Disney is smart enough to see the current economic trend. And yes, they are capitalizing on it.

I'm not going to get into the middle of this political debate, but statistics are just that - numbers thrown together and sorted to make a specific argument. You can make today's numbers look great or horrible just by changing a few data sorts.

The reality - the economy is a local thing, and always has been. There are no "national" numbers that matter when talking about jobs or opportunity.

I would agree to a point. I would also agree with those who say that people spending more does not necessarily indicate a healthy economy. People got into credit trouble before and some are conjecturing that it might be happening again.

Is this truly political? I never know whether to throw economics into that category or not.

The great rate for AP members topic has appeared to have run its course. No one has mentioned AP guests on this page.

Current economics can be discussed on the Community Board ~ that's where all the "Just For Fun" topics are located! ;)
