Just wondering if anyone applied for the Disney Culinary Program? If so, has anyone been scheduled for an interview or been accepted yet?

Thanks

I did CP in 2008 and worked as a cook at Wilderness Lodge Resort at Whispering Canyon Cafe (family style/themed) and Artist Point (upscale dining). What's up?

I was just wondering if the process of applying for and the timing of being accepted into the Culinary Program was different than the College program.

My son applied for the Culinary program weeks ago and he has not heard anything. He's a little disappointed because so many people have been accepted.

My husband just got accepted to the Pastry and Bakery program and starts January 9th! He wants to find others who got accepted. He is older (36) than most participants since he already has one degree and is finishing up his second. (this degree being the one he really wants!).

He is so excited, but worried about leaving us (myself and our son) while he is gone.

He is looking for roomates, anywhere specific he should look? He is flying out on his own and won't know anyone when he arrives.

If you are looking for a roomate in the same program, feel free to send me a message until he gets signed up here.

so excited to join the Disney family if only for a short while!:yay:

Congratulations to your husband on getting accepted! My son did not get in :sad1: As a matter of fact he didn't even get an interview.

Have him re-apply as maybe something happened and it never went thru. My husband didn't have the phone interview as the chef was there at the school and did in-person interviews, however they had to attend the presentation first and apply online.

He can apply up to 3 times I believe (but don't quote me). Tell him to keep at it. hope to see soon that he was accepted!

Thank you for the advice. We are planning to attend a presentation at the end of this month. Maybe they will be conducting in person interviews too.

I planned to talk to the recruiters to find out when he can apply again. He is so disappointed that he didn't get in. It just breaks my heart to see him like this.

Did your husband know ahead of time that they would be conducting in person interviews?

What did your husband bring to the presentation?

Thanks!

Yes, they were told ahead of time that they would do in-person interviews. He didn't bring anything to the presentation except for when his externship would begin. He did bring a portfolio of all the deserts and cakes that he had done with him to the interview as well as a resume. It may be different as this is how his school does it, but what I have been told, this isn't the norm.

I am not involved at all with Disney, but can I give you a piece of unsolicited advice. Read your last sentence. I know you want to help your son. As someone who had done interviewing of college students, however, this is a huge redflag. Your son is an adult and needs to have the initiative to talk to the recruiters himself. A chat with mommy is not a good thing.

Thanks robsmom for the advice. My son just turned 18 but I still think of him as my baby :lmao:

I know I need to let go and let him do things for himself. This is the perfect time to cut the apron strings.

I was accepted for the 2012 season and i was wondering if any body know if I can leave on my own and how can i let the recruiting team know. Thanks!!!

Is the Culinary Program only in Disney World in Florida?

I'm considering going to culinary school after I graduate college, so I was not eligible to apply for the culinary program, but I was just accepted to Food Prep in Disneyland in California, a position that is not available in Florida.

My son attended the Disney College Program presentation today. I attended also but I was there to get info for myself. I'm in Grad School and I'm considering applying for the College Program too :goodvibes

Anyway, after the presentation, my son went up to the recruiter and explained that his status for his application to the Culinary Program had been changed to "no longer in consideration". The recruiter said she wasn't sure what that meant and told him to call the recruiting office.

He called as soon as he got in the car and was told that they were not currently accepting applications for the culinary program. He asked if he could apply for the Disney College Program and was told "yes".

During the presentation the recruiter said that the recruiting session for Spring is almost over and that anyone who was interested in applying should do so within the next 48 hours. So as soon as we got home, he immediately went online and applied. He checked his email several hours later and was invited to take the web interview. Within minutes of completing the web interview, he got an email to schedule his phone interview :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

He is so excited and so am I!!! :woohoo: :yay: :dance3: So glad that we did not give up on this process and that we went to the presentation.

Looking into the program I'm in culinary school now. I graduate next year and inquiring about how long the program is? And the perks while your down there? I live in Norfolk Virginia and I love Disney. Thanks in Advance

The length of the culinary program varies. It could be as short as two and a half months, or it could be four months or longer. It depends on what they have available, I guess.

The perk of being a culinary CP is that you get paid a little more than many of the other CPs (I got $8.05 per hour). You get to wear a chef's coat instead of one of the more "dorky" costumes, which may or may not be considered a perk.

If you're good and don't get too many points on your record for being late or taking sick days, you stand a chance of being hired full-time. I know of at least three culinary CPs who stayed as full-time Disney employees. One of them ended up working in the Coral Reef restaurant.

I wrote a lot more about the culinary program on my blog. The link is in my sig.

what benefits do you get if you get excepted into program? like discounts on resorts and merchandise ? Thanks

The program time varies, as schools require different internship times and such. I was quite lucky to be offered a nine month internship with WDW Culinary.

Arrival dates are now different for Culinary members because we have our own check in process now, so finding roommates is hard. I start my program in July.
