Disney cruise? What are they like?

We don't drive so there is always that issue but with Disney you have the use of their transport so it shouldn't be a problem unless of course there is no way to get to the cruise from the hotel?!

Yes there is transport between Disney hotels and the port and between the airport and the port but it isn't free like the ME.

Yeah we weighed up price and convenience of hiring a car and leaving it at the lot at the port v taking Disneys buses and opted for the car :)

We did 12 nights in Orlando last oct, which was amazing but then we did a 4 night disney cruise and it was just the icing on the cake! It was expensive but worth every penny!
After 12 hectic days around the parks, the cruise was everything I needed. The ship was unbelievable and the service was the best iv ever experienced! We booked again for nx year and I can't wait. I'm not happy I'll have to miss this years holiday to pay for it but I know it'll be worth it!

Was on the Dream in September 2011 and the Fantasy November 2012, loved both of them but found the Fantasy a lot more busy. Not sure why, maybe more people sail in November?

We enjoyed our Fantasy cruise more because it was a 7 night (Dream was 4 nights) cruise plus we were upgraded from an outside stateroom to a balcony!

Got to agree with others though, DCL are very expensive compared to other cruise lines. I am going on a Med cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line in 12 days time, we only paid £385 for 5 nights in a balcony stateroom! Will be interesting to compare the ship we are going on (NCL Epic) to the Dream and the Fantasy.

Anyway, my advise would be, if you can afford to do a cruise then do it! You will love it! :)

Im reading this thread with great interest as we're considering the cruise next year at the end of August.I have two questions
1) Do you cruise first or park first?
2) What happens if you are onboard and their is a hurricane,as it is the season?

TIA x

1) We do the parks first. You know when people say you need a holiday after going to Orlando to relax, well your cruise can be that holiday! Some people also like to have a cruise in the middle of their holiday, it's up to you really.

2) They will change the ships route to avoid hurricanes, this normally means a change in the itinerary, nothing you can do if this happens.

We do main part of trip first then cruise, end with 3 or 4 days in the parks after the cruise. I know others prefer to go straight home on the day they get off the ship but we don't.

As Simon says, they change the route, miss ports etc. They can do things like delay sailing, delay coming back to port, use a different port, usually Fort Lauderdale and bus you to/from Port Canaveral.

We sailed once in Aug with a hurricane passing, on Royal Caribbean, they sailed around the worst and found good weather. Its not like being on land, they can usually find better weather/calmer water at sea.

I've done parks first then cruise, and this time cruise first then parks.

Most people prefer the former but I quite liked the latter. Was nice knowing you weren't going home once you got off the ship.

I believe the Fantasy followed the tail end of the most recent tropical storm last year and suffered a bit of damage

Us too :)

Of course it depends on holiday dates and cruise dates. At the very least I like a good 3 or 4 days somewhere before going home. I would personally find it too much to do the early start on disembarkation day (6/7am) followed by a days hanging around and a late evening flight then a drive home.
