I want to take the 7 day cruise next january but i'm not sure if I will be able to go. If i book it now and can't go how far in advance do I have to cancel to get the points back? And also isn't there a non-refundable $75 charge for making the reservation? My girfriend is going to nursing school and is not sure of the breaks.

Also do the cruises fill up fast or will I be okay waiting for a while to book?

If your going to book a cruise on points you will want to book at least 10 months out.

the $75 is a non refundable fee, you will lose the $75 if you cancel.

If you cancel your points will remain as reservation points, you will only be able to use the points at any non dvc resorts. example contemporary, grand floridian, polyensian, port orleans, etc, disneyland, disney paris, etc.

you have up to 6o days of arrival to cancel.

It would be better for you to rent your points and use the money for the cruise, there is no $75 fee and your points will not end up in reservation points if you cancel, plus you will have money left over after you rent your points and pay for the cruise.

the easiest way to rent your points, offer the points as a transfer only. this way once you transfer the points to another member your done. making ressies for people, you may run into people that may require changes to their ressies or have to cancel, putting your points in jeopardy.

good luck ! :wizard:

how likley is it that I will be able to transfer 400 points so I can fund my vacation. What is a good selling price? I am very new to this.

I am sure you already know this, but they haven't released the points for the cruises for next January 2007. I have been calling a lot to ask when they will be released. I have gotten varying answers from "tomorrow" to "mid-March." I don't understand how they can tell you that you need to book your cruise 11 months in advance and then not even release the points until 9 months in advance. Very frustrating.

Mickeyman,

you should be able to get $10 a point, so you would have $4000 to work with for the cruise. If you have a paypal account, it makes it easy for people to transfer funds to you but there is a fee . check out the rent/trade board for more info. It is a much better deal and more cost effective to buy the cruise than to use points.
goodluck

Hmm...we haven't booked our cruise yet and I'm planning on going in late Apr. or early May, '06. There are still reg. rooms available. Maybe we will transfer them out. I keep hearing how much of a better deal it is. Yes, we are new to this too.

Don't book the cruise now for points if you are not sure you can go. As wdwstar already posted, if you cancel it, you will not be able to use the points for a stay at a DVC resort (or for a trade via II). You'll have to use them for one of the non-DVC options.

If you want to use points, book now for cash to reserve your cabin. When you are sure of your dates, call MS and see if you can switch the cash ressie to points. Believe others have done this without losing their cabin assignment.

Best wishes -
