I Love, Love, Love to cruise "Disney" but I have looked so much I'm really burnt out on looking because it feels hopeless. We have cruised on every Disney ship "except" the Fantasy and really wanted to cruise on this ship but my gosh, the prices are out of this world! Why does Disney want to price these cruises so high? It seems they are more about getting the rich on board rather than the average middle income family. Just makes me sad...:(

Ive been really bummed on the last few opening days to see how high the prices are starting. We're trying RCCL this spring. I'm not expecting to like it as much as Disney but am keeping an open mind and if it is anywhere close, we will end up cruising with them in the future because the prices are more manageable. Disney is just super expensive.

I think they are not having any trouble selling staterooms at those prices. I haven't been on the Fantasy yet either but do have an addiction to DCL. I look for the repositioning cruises or cruises where I don't have to fly to get to the port. Fortunately the Magic is coming back to NYC this year and I can drive to the port.

Check out the Fantasy on 9/17/2016, Verandah. I actually consider that a pretty good rate.

We are big DCL cheerleaders, we always tell friends and family what a great time we've had on every cruise. However, even we are going to start exploring other options with our Canadian dollar currently in a tailspin with no end in sight. Other major cruise lines offer Canadian pricing which takes the sting out a bit.

For example our spring break March 2017...for the three of us a 7-night on the Disney Fantasy March 11th (eastern Caribbean) in balcony stateroom would be $5451 US.
Or $7724 Canadian at today's exchange rage.

On RCCL we could do March 12th Eastern Caribbean 7-night on the Oasis in a balcony stateroom for $5498 Canadian. With the current booking specials they have now we would also get a $250 OBC.

We are not abandoning DCL forever, we just need to think prudently until our dollar recovers (or maybe some day DCL will start offering Canadian pricing!)

My husband and I are about to take our 3rd cruise on the Fantasy. We love that ship, so we're always on the hunt for a good rate. Cruising in the off season is definitely key for us. We're doing a category 5D room (verandah) for $3,400 (that's for both us, no kids). I consider that to be a pretty reasonable rate for a DCL 7 day. If you're stuck cruising in May, I imagine the prices will be higher, unfortunately. Do you have a CostCo membership? They tend to offer deals with cash back or store credit or something, in addition to competitive rates, from what I understand.

Like all the other lines, prices are based on what the market will bear......in other words what people pay.

There are DCL discounts and room specails. We are far from Rick and with some planing we get to go.

We are middle class and we were able to afford it. I find dcl to cost double or close to it for a family of four. Other cruise lines tend to have very low rates for the third and fourth passengers. Im glad we cruised three times on the Fantasy back in 2014 when discounts were plentiful. My biggest complaint about Dcl at the moment is the stale itineraries. I cant pay Fantasy prices for the same old ports. I cant see myself ever back on the Fantasy unless I get a really good discount or it goes somewhere I havent been before.

They used to offer Canadian rates which I believe were 20% discounts. We got that discount for a cruise we took in feb 2014. Maybe the Cdn discount will be back... we can only hope

To clarify, it wasn't a Cdn rate, it was a discount for Cdn residents

Thanks for replying. We usually try to go off-season also but this time, if we want to cruise with our friends, May is the month as that is when they have to go. Maybe as it gets closer some "guaranteed" staterooms may open up.

I definitely understand that! If we had already cruised the Fantasy we wouldn't be looking for anything on that ship right now either but because we really want to see and cruise on the Fantasy I'm really trying to find a rate we can live with.
