We are planning a trip over our boys' Fall Break in October of 09. We originally planned to do the World for four days. However, yesterday, my nine year old son asked how much Disney Cruise cost. When I looked it up, a 3 day cruise (the only one out of Port Canaveral offered over their break) would cost just a little bit more than a stay at the World, so we are considering doing the cruise in lieu of the World.
We do travel to the World often, as you can see from my signature, sometimes 3 times in a year (ILs live in Sarasota, husband's trade shows, easy drive from Atlanta), so it's not a once in a lifetime even for us. We have never done the cruise, as we wanted our kids to be able to go to the kids clubs offered on the cruise line.
Here's my issue: One of my sons has developmental issues. At age 4 (5 in October) he is more like a 2 year old. He is not potty trained and is also non-verbal. He can walk quite well, but is clumsy. Next year when we take the trip, he will celebrate his 6th birthday. I do not know where he will be developmentally at that point. Our goal is potty trained, simple language and better motor skills, but we cannot see the future to know exactly where he will be.
If we went on the cruise, we'd definately want to make use of the kids club. Would they take a developmentally delayed child? Should we try the Cruise or should we just stick to the World?
