Hello everyone,

I have been hanging out on the DCL part of the forum for weeks and just realized I should have started here. My DD has Ewings Sarcoma a bone cancer. For her make a wish we are going on a disney cruise. I was wondering what type of things to except and what surprises of my own I should do. My DD will be either 12 or 13 with two teenage sisters. Making a total of five passengers. Anyone know what cat. we will stay in?

Thanks!

Glad you found us.
I'm going to change your title for you a little bit. There is something called a Wishes Cruise where people take a short boat trip to watch the fireworks show called "Wishes" at MK. I think you will get more answers that way.

I don't know that they have a specific category they use for WISH trips. It probably depends on how much notice they have for planning the trip and what categories are available.

Some things that might be helpful for other posters to know would be whether your child will be using a wheelchair. Also, would she have any limitations (like need to avoid a lot of contact with others because of concerns about infection), etc.

Hello and congratulations on your DDs wish trip! We are going on our DS's wish trip to WDW next week. I would recommend that you check the special needs guide from Passporter. The current edition is out of print, but the second edition is due out on 9/1/07, and has info specific to cruises in it. It will be retitled "Open Mouse for Walt Disney World and the Disney Cruise Line." There are accessible rooms in several different categories, if your DD is in a wheelchair or ECV.

We happen to be very lucky. My DD isn't in a wheelchair or really in need of any meds on our trip. The only thing we will have to keep in mind is what level of activities she can do. Because her tumor is in her back for a year or so extreme activities maybe be out of it. But we don't even know that for sure until we meet with our doctors once she finishes chemo.

We are very lucky to have no real long term side effects.

One thing you need to do is contact DCL and make sure you get a form related to medical needs. They have to have that on file before you take the cruise.

My DD had her MAW aboard the Disney Wonder in Nov 05. It was a very special trip indeed. Disney actually had a wish cooridantor availible to help us in anyway we needed. Every night she would leave a little surprise for my DD in our cabin. My DD uses a WC so we were in a handicap acsessible room. MAW had given her spend money and money for excursions. If you have any other questions I would be more than happy to answer them.

I thinking MAW is a great thing........I hope your daugthe r has the time of her life, she deserves it Boy was this board a wake up call for me, all my crying over little things ( well big to me until I read something like this)
