Disney Cruise Line: Simulated Test Sailings With Volunteers Beginning June 29

This is the first im hearing about it. Just curious why wait until Nov? (I haven't been keeping up as much
as i should)
Originally some people picked November as the original CSO was set to expire Nov 1. I think overall it was an arbitrary date.

Ohhh that explains a lot. I thought maybe it was for more time to get vaccinations approved for under 12.

Best case scenario is a 2 week delay. More likely they will postpone indefinitely and wait to see what happens with the CDC CSO and FL situation in early July. My gut tells me they will sail in 2021 but not until Thanksgiving/Christmas time

I think you may be right. That would be my NYE cruise. Not sure I have the fortitude to make that trip. I want to hear policies etc. Before my PIF

I'm so depressed after this news....I normally don't mind Disney's silence as I hate the back and forth other lines have done but this may be crossing a line for me. One way or another, they still have to say something in the next 10 days. Can you imagine if DCL gets to 30-days out of the next scheduled cruise and doesn't even publicly acknowledge that the test cruise got cancelled?

I doubt DCL will sail out of the US in 2021.
I cancelled my December 2021 cruise yesterday, because after reading about the RCL debacle, I began to lose faith in a normal cruise experience this year. There are also personal issues this year that make it a poor year to cruise. We're pinning our hopes on our December 2022 Dream cruise! Feels liberating to not have to worry about 2021 cruising anymore.

They seem to have no trouble hanging onto all of our money without telling us much of anything. Celebrity is sailing now out of FL and Carnival and RCl are about to follow. I'm so very angry right now (and yes, I have a cruise coming up in September that seems pretty certain not to sail now and over $25K tied up with DCL right now).

We are supposed to cruise Nov 13-18 on the Magic out of Miami. I just booked airfare. That was probably the kiss of death. Last year I had literally booked airfare before everything shut down. I would like to know by August whether my November cruise is sailing.

Folks, you had to know there was a pretty big chance of a hick up after being shutdown for over a year. It may be minor, but I am very pleased that Disney canceled rather than risk anyone's health.

Way to blame the victims. People have certainly had reasons for raised hopes, given how much of daily life has gone back to normal in Florida and other states, at Disney World, with other lines getting back to cruising, and with the CDC losing the first part of their court battle to control the cruise lines.

No one has a crystal ball. It isn't nice to chide people who are hurting.

I predict that another round of cancellations are headed our way.

I don’t think they technically need to even do a test sailing since the cruises start after the July date with the CSO? (I know I’m mangling this) …. But if they had the crew ready to go, I can imagine they are going to push to get up and running ASAP.

After getting 2 dates cancelled . I pulled out also. Planning WDW trip but the stress of that made
me want to try booking DCL again. I was soooo hoping to hear good news from the cruises
scheduled soon. Now this makes my heart sink. Love DCL it is definitely my happy place so yeah I'm
a bit unhappy.

Look - I love Disney, but I do not think they are infallible and I think they are not above criticism when deserved.

How on earth did a chide anyone? We KNEW there were going to be problems, which is the entire reason the test cruises are happening, to work the bugs out. If any thing I am praising those in charge at Disney for going....."whoa, we have an issue to workout"

I see 2 possibilities, although I'm sure there are scads more.

1) They are being upfront and some of the crew COVID tests came back either positive or inconclusive. They will reschedule the test cruise for in a couple weeks.

2) They are fairly certain that after July 18th, the test sailings won't be necessary and they will be able to sail with revenue passengers. So they cancel the test sailing and wait until the 18th to announce they are going forward with the cruises scheduled.

I was thinking the same thing. Why would they need to do a test cruise anymore?

I’m curious why you have kept so much money tied up with them. Why not cancel.

I tend to be very pessimistic about DCL sailings (I've always voted 2022 on those polls at the start of the pandemic in 2020) and I don't necessarily consider this bad news.

It's just a number of false positives in testing that prompted this. It's a good decision. Why risk blowback?

I see it as DCL saying, 'well these tests seems to be faulty, might as well postpone the sim sailing and wait for the CSO's order in mid July and maybe the CDC will modify it' and then they'll go with the >95% vaxxed route as some lines have done recently.

So I don't see this as bad news at all.
In fact, it's such a non-issue that I will be PIF my Nov 21 7-night cruise in the next few days.
Unless there is a major resurgence of the virus in the US (unlikely so far), I think DCL will resume this October.
