Disney Cruise line part of DVC?

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be great if Disney built another Cruise ship, and sold the staterooms as part of DVC? Instead of buying into a resort, you would be buying into a cruise. Tough to market I am sure, because a ship is not real estate, but boy, if they could figure out how to make it work, I would be the first in line to sign on. Anyone else? I think other cruise lines would follow the lead, and we would then have "floating timeshares"!

Also two other issues. Timeshare must have an interest in real estate - a ship doesn't qualify. Second, the ship are registered in another country. This could present a lot of other "issue" since the property is not US.

Time shares may be available on ship. At least one episode on the travel channel showed a ship were real estate as condos were purchased.

You can purchase a "stateroom" (actual description sounds more like a condo) on a cruise ship - see this article

If they did have a ship dedicated to DVC I would be broke! I don't know if I could resist buying enough points for a cruise every year.

Like BuffaloDisney said, I too saw something about this on the travel channel. I can't remember price range - but vey, very expensive and something definitely not in our means. It would be great - I guess you can add me to the dreaming list.

Your post is interesting. Last night I was watching Travel Channel and they were showing one of the Royal Caribbean ships. The whole time I am thinking, wouldn't it be great to have a DVC Cruise Line timeshare?

Laws saying time shares must be real estate interests are state laws....and I'll bet the clout Disney has in Florida, they could get an exemption written into the law for cruise line time shares.

The maintenance fee's would not be an issue, since they would sell a ton of points to thousands of members, generating enough $$$$ to make it profitable.

They could register a new ship in the U.S., or any other country without to much hassle. My neighbor has an RCI time share and his home resort is in South Africa. Saves him a bundle each year in taxes.

They could do it, especially if someone at DVC has some vision.
