Hello all:

This is my first post ever in the DIS forums.

My family and I have a cruise planned for December 12th, 2020, in the Disney Fantasy. I know it is not looking good right now, but what do you think? Will it take place? Will it be cancelled?

I would be very interested in reading your comments.

Thanks.

Congrats on your first post and welcome to one of the most addicting forums on the web. As far as thoughts on your cruise going out, it's anyone's guess. Luckily for you there are many threads in the forum discussing this topic in great detail. I personally am hopeful your cruise goes out, especially being a Merry Time Christmas cruise. I am also hopeful that DCL will make every effort to get going again soon.

Thank you for your warm welcome and for your positivism, it is something we really need. I hope you are right and we can go on our December cruise.

Again, thanks.

I would say that at this point your chances of not sailing are upwards of 95 percent. In order for the sailing to happen the cruise line would basically need to be starting to restaff ships right now and there are no indications that that’s happening or that there are plans for that to happen soon.

Although I really want to sail, I have to agree with you. It is not looking good. But also I do not think that Disney needs that much time to hire enough staff to begin cruising. Let's see, we'll know really soon.

My wife and I have a Fantasy cruise booked for 1/16/21, and I'm not confident that we will sail. Just in my opinion, when DCL does start cruising again, I think they will start with the shorter cruises and see how they go before starting up the 7 day cruises that the Fantasy does.

They’ll need a lot of time considering various travel restrictions and the possibility of needing to quarantine. Repatriating crew took months and really the pandemic isn’t any better now than it was when they were working to get crew home.

It will not sail. The CDC hasn't yet greenlighted cruising out of U.S. ports, and when they do, DCL won't be first out of the gate. DCL has released no safety guidelines for reopening & no timeline. They have made no move to repatriate crew, who will have to be trained in all of the new procedures. Many countries that DCL routinely visits at port are not allowing American guests (& DCL legally has to visit at least one foreign port during each sailing.) 3 - 4 months just isn't enough time for all of that to happen, at the rate reopening is going.

Don't expect cruising to resume at least until schools are successfully kept open nationwide. The CDC has the authority to keep cruising suspended, and with schools struggling to reopen & U.S. numbers still high, the resumption of cruising is not going to be a priority for the CDC anytime soon.

Welcome to the Dis, Orta Cedeno Family!:welcome:
We are glad you found us.

As for your question, unfortunately all we have at this point is speculation. I currently have a cruise booked for Feb with DCL, and another in July with NCL (rebooked from this July) and I am not holding my breath for either. Seeing how fast things changed in just a couple of months this year, makes me realize anything can happen in a very short amount of time.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best! Good luck!

It could be, I just hope for the best. Thanks.

I think if the CDC doesn't extend the ban the cruiselines will start up late this year or early next year. I wouldn't expect it to be a normal cruise. You'll probably have to get a Covid test, wear a mask, no shows or fireworks, no buffets. If you just want to relax, read a book and soak in the warm tropical air it could still be a great vacation.

Welcome aboard - the forum, now. The cruise, probably later. ...

But I will throw in my suggestion that You decide not to sail.

If this is your first Disney Cruise, in December, you would probably have a significantly modified version of what previous cruisers have come to love about sailing with the Mouse.

First of all, the Mouse. And the Princesses. Probably the top draw, all the character interactions (or just their presence).

The ship’s architecture, layout and decor are a great draw - and it is beautiful at Christmas! That shouldn’t change.

The Disney experience. It’s not advertised as a party at Sea - which is why I was allowed to take my nieces on my first cruise.

I had to rebook a Nov 7, 2020, Cruise. We decided to try again November 2021 - with fingers crossed.

I have no inside scoop nor knowledge what is going to happen.

Good Luck and Happy Sailing.

Masks are a given. I would not be so sure about the buffets and the shows. Disney will find a way.

Thanks.

Thank you for your response. This will not be my first cruis, it will be my second. My first one was also a Christmas cruise, December 2019, also on the Fantasy. We had such a magical time that we wanted to repeat.

I guess I should have said self serve buffets. As far as entertainment goes I would think it depends on if they can get all the performers back. WDW hasn't started shows yet.

i was booked on the same cruise, gave up and rebooked to sept.2021. i want as much as possible to have the disney experience, without it i could be on any other cruiseline.

DCL not only will have to get performers back, but they will need to quarantine them prior to having at least 2 weeks of rehearsals for any production show. And that is assuming they bring back casts, and aren't bringing in new cast members.

Even if someone has been in the show before, they cannot just get on board and do the show the next night. Timing of the company is key. Especially at sea.

So, assuming perfect testing, and no one needing quarantine past 14 days, you are still at a full month to have performers ready.and they are largely canadian and US and British, as opposed to the below decks crew. Getting them to an embark point, testing and quarantine is significantly harder right now due to the places they are coming from.

If DCL started callbacks today, they might be able to sail this year. But they have made no steps towards that.

Have they been paying these performers for the last 7 months?
