Disney cruise frustration

A year and a half ago my family, my sisters family and our parents booked a cruise for June 2005. We were one of the first to book so we had our choice of cat 5 rooms on deck seven. We choose a prime location. A few months ago we found out our rooms had been moved becasue the cabins we choose were being refurbished. This week I found out my new room is directly across from the laundry.

To say I'm upset is an understatement. We booked our cruise as early as possible to get a great room, then Disney decides to move us to the laundry area. I am concerned for two main reasons. One I have a child with a dust allergy. I don't want to spend my cruise with the ship Dr dealing with wheezing. Two I have a child who still naps. I'm concerned about the noise.

Our travel agent called Disney and was told all Cat 4, 5, and 6 were sold out and we couldn't be moved. The agent asked about 3 and was told she could not move a cat 5 to a 3. The agent asked then what can be done. Disney answer was nothing and obviously they don't care.

I'm totally frustrated and concerned for my family. We chose Disney because of the great costumer service and kid friendly atmospher. I'm not seeing either for my $3,000 plus vacation. Does anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks :confused3

My mom was directly across from the laundry room on our cruise. She never had a problem with noise or dust. The cabine doors are heavy, insulated metal. I doubt you will have a problem. I frequently used the laundry room and never felt they were dusty from dryer lint.

That does stink though to be moved like that after you had booked so far in advance.

I don't know what can be done to get a better room for you. :(

I can offer, though, that we were on Deck 7 across from the laundry on our last cruise and we found it to be a great location. I can honestly say we never heard any noise from the laundry and in fact found it a huge convenience for taking care of our own clothes. My DH also has severe allergies and sinus problems and he had no problems on the cruise due to dust. We even booked a room near the laundry again for our 2006 cruise.

You will find a lot of opinions here on whether or not being close to the laundry is good or bad. I think you do have reason to be upset that you were moved from the rooms you requested when you originally booked early on. I just don't know what can be done to rectify it at this point if everything is booked. You could always cancel but I'd hate to see you do that. I think you'll still have a really good time if you go. I'd call DCL and talk to a supervisor about your disappointment. Stay calm and respectful ;) (difficult to do, I know, when you're angry) and they're more apt to want to help you.

Good luck and let us know what happens. :boat:

Sorry to hear that you were moved after selecting your stateroom very early on. Unfortunately, I do believe that a DCL rep would very well say there is nothing they can do. I've heard that.

But, on the bright side we did have a stateroom on deck 7 right accross from the laundry and didn't have a problem with noise. I cannot speak for the dust, but my wife has asthma and didn't complain. I think the room could very well work out for you. It is still no fun to have your stateroom changed on you in that manner though.

I have to agree with the other posters I think it stinks that your room was moved but being across from the laundry room on deck 7 wasn't an issue for us either.

Since DCL apparently can't seem to find you another room why don't you ask for what they do have control over...an onboard credit.

Perhaps you can ask your TA to call DCL and give them an open-ended opportunity to make it up to you via an onboard credit.

Have the TA ask, "Well then what can you do for my client to make up for this inconvenience?" They may not be able to move you to another room, but they certain have control over adding a credit to your account.

A few hundred dollars to spend on board isn't a bad way to go. :earboy2:

I think your room will be fine. But you may want to find a better Travel Agent! It does not appear he/she is realling working for you to pushthe issue with DCL. Howerver not that much could be done they did move you pretty easily seems to reason they could move another family just as easy.

Just because the travel agent wasn't able to resolve the issue doesn't necessarily mean that they're at fault. Unfortunately, things happen, and there's only so much an agent can do as well. (I used to be a travel agent, and swore I'd never use one, as I've seen how frustrating it is when a client cannot deal directly with the airline, cruiseline and/or hotel.)

Maybe you could see if anything becomes available when you check-in. One never knows what becomes available. It is encouraging though, to read what's been posted from other cruisers who've stayed across from the laundry room. Maybe it won't be as bad as it sounds? :earsgirl:

I like Buddy Bears suggestion, but I would just go on the cruise and if you find it's noisy, complain to guest services then and see what they can do for you. Maybe they could quiet the noisy ones! I will be down a few rooms from the laundry on our first cruise next month!

Hello,

I agree with the others who have said that being near the laundry room is not a big deal. I have been on about 4 cruises where I have been right near the laundry room and never had a problem. I found it to be an advantage because every night I always have to iron my clothes for dinner and being right near the room helped me to see when the line was not too long. I would say to just enjoy your cruise and have a magical time. You will never forget your first Disney Cruise.

Sorry for your problems, especially when you take great care in choosing the perfect cabin.

Out of curiousity are you on a 3, 4 or 7 day cruise for $3000 plus? How many people? Looks like a great price for a cat 5, but I guess it all depends on the # of people and the days cruising.

I would be a little upset if the rooms i had reserved were moved without any addl compensation....pursue the on board credit or room upgrade...definitely write a letter to DCL regarding your disappointment with the room change and the reasons why and see what happens...

I think having a stateroom across from the laundry is better than having a stateroom with a maintenence problem, so I think DCL was really looking out for your best interest. And they are giving you what you paid for - as long as it is the same Category.

At this point, you think it is a negative, however, you never know - it may be a blessing in disguise.

I don't think that DCL owes you anything but an apology, so your room is out of order - here is your new room assignment. yes, disappointing but not worth compensation IMHO.

I hope you have a great cruise despite this snafu.
