Disney Cruise Excursion help

Hi,

I am trying to find any excursion for my parents to do in Tortola. My mother uses a electric wheel. She suffered a stroke at a very young age and can't use one arm or hand and drags her leg.

Last time we were in Tortola we just jumped in with a group in a open air taxi for $20 apiece for a tour of the island.

Does anyone have any suggestions for my mother? I am hoping we can borrow though I know it's not guaranteed a wheelchair for day and get a private van to take her and my dad around the island for a bit just to see a bit.

But I haven't found anyone who does this and you know the taxi drivers will want to fill up their taxis for such a tour.

Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with the excursions in Tortola. From the DCL website I see there are 6 excursions noted as "wheelchair accessible" and another 5 as "wheelchair transfer required." I've read varying reports of accessibility, even for those noted as "accessible" may not be as easy to maneuver through all parts/areas of the excursion. Those listed as requiring transfer may also involve climbing steps into a tour bus or such, so be sure to read up about the specifics.

I know DCL has wheelchairs available onboard for "emergencies" -- I don't know whether they would allow you to borrow one for a port excursion. You could contact the Special Services department at (407) 566-3602 to ask. However, I would suggest bringing a manual chair to use in ports.

You might also cross-post this on the Cruise Line Forum -- there are posters there familiar with port excursions who may not visit the disABILITIES Forum.

If you look at other forums it does not look like Tortula is very accessible.
