I'm planning on taking the family on the Disney cruise, next year. The official DVC site is not at all clear on what documentation I will need to take. It is clear that we have to surrender our passports on embarking for return at the end of the cruise, but what I'm not at all clear on is this:

i) If we enter the US at Orlando airport under the visa waiver program, do we need a visa to embark? (The DVC site talks about the need to have any "necessary" visas).

ii) Do my party need to carry separate ID cards in order to be allowed to disembark at the various places that the ship visits? (Again the DVC site makes it clear that this is a requirement for US citizens but is unclear on whether this is a requirement for anyone else.)

I would be very grateful if anyone could answer this - it would be a disaster if we were refused permission to embark just because we got this wrong.

Don't panic!! We've done 3 magic cruises without incident so far. Just fill out all the documentation you get from DCL. You won't see your passport for the week but if you don't have any other photo ID they will give you a photocopy of the relevant page. What my mum uses is her photo driving license and I use my old passport although I was told even a student ID card would do. Might even be worthwhile colour photocopying the last two pages of your passports before you go. There is always DCL staff when you get back on board so you will get back on.
Enjoy your cruise - we have two more booked!
