Disney Cruise Commitment Ceremony - who pays what??

Hey guys,
Myself and my partner Ally have been together for almost 5 years now and we are hoping to get married in the next couple of years. We have been looking into a commitment ceremony on one of the Disney Cruise ships. We are from the UK and so our costs will be high - flights to USA, cost of cruise for everyone, cost of 'wedding' package and honeymoon is Disneyworld.

We are not in the fortunate position to have any parents to pay, as my father is not well off, and my partners father unfortunately passed away many years ago. So we were wondering if there are any costs that our guests could reasonably be asked to contribute towards? Or is that completely out of the question, and if we want them to attend we should cover the costs?? It seems kind of wrong to ask people to pay for any of it (since we are choosing to go abroad - and neither of our familys are well off) but it will cost us a lot to pay for everything for everyone...

Would really appreciate your thoughts - and any other info on disney cruise commitment ceremonies!!

Thanks everyone xx :bride::bride:

First, I think that it is a great idea for a commitment ceremony on any of the Disney cruises :thumbsup2. I wish my husband and I had gotten married like we wanted to some 10 years ago now.

Having said that, I do not think that it is wrong to ask those that would want to attend to pay for themselves (cost of flights, cruise, etc..) Those that are willing to will go and those that aren't will stay behind. I suspect that even if a minimal amount of family and friends show, it will still be a special time for both of you. You are not talking about going tomorrow, but a few years, which would be plenty of time for your guests to get any finances together. If all else fails, you and your partner go and video tape the event and have a gathering / celebration when you return.

Best of Luck to you!

When we did our Big Fat Gay Disney Wedding, we paid for only the Pre-reception (w/ champagne punch and cookies), the cereremony location rental, and the reception (full bar, appetizers, buffet dinner, and cake).

Our guests paid for their own transportation and lodging at Disney World (though Disney gave us a discounted block of rooms) and park tickets. We did use our DVC points to rent rooms for my immediate family and members of the wedding party, but as far as I know, that's not all that common.

In my mind, a Disney Cruise Commitment Ceremony isn't much different. Your guests will still be paying for lodging, entertainment, and transportation.

In terms of more information, contact the Disney Fairytale Weddings team! They're awesome to deal with!

Also, check out the Weddings and Honeymoon forum right here on the DIS. We got a lot of helpful information from there!

Congratulations, and keep us posted on your plans!

Hi - thanks very much for your comments! And thanks for not making us feel too guilty about asking for contributions! The problem is that both our families have financial problems and debts etc and i would be worried that either they wouldnt be able to afford it - or - they would feel under a lot of pressure to find that money from somewhere...

Perhaps we could just ask them to find the money for their flights?

Are there any other ceremony options? Ie could we hire out a room for the night for a meal and speeches to have a more intimate 'do' that costs less than the wedding package?

We are both very excited and looking forward to further responses! :lovestruc

I would never expect someone to pay my airfare or for my cruise for something like this. :) If I could go, I would. If I couldn't well, I'd have to bow out, eh? ::yes::

You can have a cruise wedding with just the two of you and then have a reception at home for everyone there. ::yes::

We are having our commitment ceremony aboard the Wonder in May. Our guests are paying for their own cruises, obviously, and their airfare. We booked studios at BCV the night before the cruise for our guests on points and are paying for their transportation to the port.
