Disney Cruise Cancellation Death in Family No Insurance

I'm sorry for your family's loss and that you are having to deal with all of this at such a difficult time.

I have read the entire thread here and I understand that your parents live outside of the US, but given what you have learned and what will be lost if they do not take the cruise, perhaps they will consider flying in to cruise? It could be a great time for all of you to be together and depending upon airfare, could be the best choice financially. Just a suggestion.

Again, sorry for your family's loss,
Dreams

Yeah I discussed with them the option of coming back before the cruise, but since they are traveling this week in itself, they said it's not possible for them to come back in time.

I have posted it in my local craigslist and e-mailed my local work e-mail list.

Quick question, I spoke with Disney yesterday and the rep said that I could change two names on the stateroom, not the third.

Now, my travel agent says you can only change one name per stateroom, he says he spoke to Disney.

What should I do here? I think I have two people at work interested, should I just call up Disney myself again and stop dealing with this travel agent?

Would it be possible to release your TA via a release form and then re-assign Disney as your agent? Then they would be able to speak directly to you.

Just to give an update, I ended up canceling my parents cruise, we only got back 25%.

The travel agent and agency are horrendous to say the least. The several times I called Disney, one of the reps was the most helpful and would work it out where they would be able to switch all names on their listing, except the problem was the TA.

I am tempted to name this agency here so people avoid them. Whenever I would pass the info to this agency, they would dispute it, I got this agency from cruisecompete so i will post a review there.

Thanks for coming back and letting us know the outcome. Sorry you had to cancel and all the troubles you had. As with any company there is always a bad apple somewhere. Luckely we have a great travel agent we have been happy with but we only were teamed with her after we weren't happy with our original one and we complained to the owner.

As for the original deposit. it seems you only paid the deposit originally which you would have been able to cancel if you really didn't want the room since you were outside of the penalty phase.

We always purchase insurance for cruises just because you never know since you pay so far in advance of traveling. I look at it like house and car insurance. You need to have it and hope you never have to use it

If there wasn't any insurance I would not have expected a full refund. But it's a shame the travel agent was apparently not willing to work to switch the names.

Not only that, the travel agent was giving false information and was questioning me as to where I got my information.

Note, I would call Disney, try to work it out with them, this one rep provided a workaround but said he can't do anything unless you go through TA.

Called TA, he said that's not possible, etc. etc,. I told them release me from the contract, they refused.

The refund received is 25% of original cost, which was $2200

There were a lot of misteps but one thing is that when you are paid in full the reservation cannot be released back to the client. Just as if a reservation is booked directly by the guest and after paid in full they want to transfer to a travel agent it cannot be done.

As for the name change Disney's rule is that if ALL names are changed it is a cancellation of the entire reservation. The cm may have given you a way to do it but it wasn't the correct way and I am sure if their phone call to you was recorded and listened to later that person would have gotten in trouble.

As always there are two sides to every story and I am just giving the other end of it. Doesn't excuse the travel agent of being rude, etc. At that point I would have asked to speak with the owner of the agency or escalated up the ranks. As for the original second reservation having the deposit paid without your consent it could have still been cancelled since only the deposit had been paid

The refund you received is based on Disney's terms and conditions for cruise reservations and the TA had no control over the amount itself

I am sorry for the loss and the trouble you had but hope you can put it behind you and enjoy your time on the ship

So sorry to hear about your loss

My sister passed away last May she was supposed to be doing a b2b on the dream last December. My husband and I were executors of her will and whilst on the magic last July we had to cancel the whole vacation as neither our children nor us felt we could face the dream without her. We were like zombies at times and lost in our own thoughts on the magic didn't get off the ship at any port just went through the motions of enjoying ourselves when other people were around.

Having said that we took a copy of her will etc to the port office and the cruise line staff were fantastic. They took photocopies of everything and allowed us to move the holiday to January on another ship. We will probably never go on the Dream now as we will always relive the vacation we never managed to get together. But DCL were most helpful in every way. We will never be able to thank them enough

My thoughts are with you all.

Andrea xx
