Disney Credit Card

I am thinking about getting a Disney CC but was wondering if it is worth it. I have two other credit cards that have bonus features that are better deals for me and I really don't like to have too many CCs

Besides the 1% earn, are there ever special rates offered on packages, tickets, or resorts (not including delayed financing, I like to pay for my trips well before I go on them so I 'm not really interested in that aspect). Can you ever earn more than one percent for purchases at Disney? Do you ever get special offers in the mail? I know there is a special running until September for a Character Meet-n-Greet for Disney CC holders, is it common to have these things going on or is this rare?

Any info would be appreciated from Disney CC holders.

Thanks, Kate

My dh has the card, because I make him! :teeth: I love it, I just noticed last night we've got about $90 of reward dollars on it. My dh HATES debt and barely lets me use it, so I'm excited to have that many rewards on it! There must have been some type of bonus offer last month, because I earned $30 reward dollars in December, and that was with VERY little actually charged to it.

I was just getting ready to post the question to see if anyone knows of any good signups for the Disney credit card? I know in the past there were $50 sign up deals, but I can only find $25 at the best, right now. I want my own, phooey on dh!! :rotfl2: I can earn ALOT more rewards if I don't have to tell him about it!! :hyper:

I think you do better with other rewards cards. We charged everything on it (paid off every month) when they offered double reward points. We never got double reward points and after charging a lot only ended up with 240.00 reward dollars (DH charged several company business trips, we charged a lot!) We stopped using it and are back to our frequent flyer card now. Other than a free pin at sign up and a few coupons here and there, no other benefits here.

The card certainly does not give the most rewards, but it depends on what you want to do with the rewards that seems to matter. We charge everything we can to out credit cards, and then pay the balance off each month. We used a frequent flyer card and got enough points to get very cheap flights to Orlando for our April trip. Once we had enough points for the flights we switched to the Disney card. By the time we go we will have over 600 points, which will help feed us for free for a lot of the trip. We will then switch back to the frequent flyer card to begin getting air miles again.
In 2004 the Disney Visa had a great discount on the WDW hotels, I think I saved 100 a night over the AAA discount for our stay at AKL. I keep hoping that they will offer a discount again, but time is running out.
There are other little discounts offered on Disney products, and since the card is free we will keep it, even if we don't use it.

The bonus rewards are never guaranteed and often vary, but I remember something about 5x rewards when using the card to shop online at disneyshopping.com through January. We have also received free movie preview tickets (although I believe this might be ending soon).

I agree there are better rewards cards out there, but we like this one as any Disney perks we get go to making our trips more magical.

i've had the card for about a year now and have never gotten anything more than the 1% rewards. i charge everything on it and only have about $60 worth of rewards (my biggest expenses are my rent & bills, and of course you can only pay for those by check  ). I'll at least be able to treat myself and DBF to a free TS meal or two at our trip in May, but after that I might look into getting an airplane miles reward card. I also don't know what I would use the rewards $$$$ on if I wasn't planning a WDW trip. I'd rather save hundreds of dollars on airplane tickets to get to WDW than $75 on food once I get there, right? :sunny:

Free 1 day Park Ticket w/New Disney Visa

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet, but I recieved this offer from Disney Visa. It says, "Free Walt Disney World 1-day Magic Your Way Base Tickey after first purchase. Especially for Walt Disney World Resort Passholders. Apply for Disney's Visa Card today. Call 1-866-298-8442 or visit www.disneyworldfriendfree.com and mention Key Code 6Y9S01."
I called and they said that since I already have a Disney Visa that I can apply for a second card. I'm thinking of doing that just for this free ticket. I also asked if I could share this code with my Mother and they said yes. I don't think you have to be annual passholders to get this offer.

:faint: when i signed up all i got was a $15 disney shopping GC! lucky you!!!!

Thanks Janet100 - now that's the kind of deal that would make it worth it. I'll give it a try.

I think the card is worth it if Disney is usually your vacation. The first time we used our points on our cruise and had about $120 and we just went in October and had about $300 in points. We used it to eat and shop and we hardly had to touch our cash. We go about once a year so it is a great rewards card for us.

:faint: I was going to apply for the card and use the ticket for my Oct vacation BUT I read the fine print and it said the ticket expires on 6/30/2006! So I guess that will not work out! :(

Well, I've had the card since August and I have a whopping 5 reward dollars! I'm starting to re-think this decision. The free movie screenings seem hard to come by. There are discounts for Disney on Ice or Disney on Broadway, but I have no desire to do that. You can get discounts at Disneyshopping.com but I think that requires spending more money. ;) We won't be going back to WDW anytime soon, so there's not much incentive to rack up rewards right now. I noticed that you can't use the reward dollars until you have $20 worth, so since I'm one quarter there, I may as well keep going until I get $20, and make a decision at that point. You can use the rewards at Disneyshopping.com and at the Disney Store, so maybe I can score a dvd in the next year or so. I may just keep it so that I have the option of earning points before our next trip, whenever that is.

I think I'm going to apply for a Citi card with 5% cash rewards, because cash is good everywhere and doesn't expire and you don't have to jump through hoops to get it. :)

We like ours, although I'm sure there are some better rewards cards out there. We have been using it for everything since August and expect to have about 175 in rewards to use for our trip next month. I'm tickled, frankly, it feels like free money to me. I didn't buy anything I wouldn't have bought anyway and I always paid my bill in full every month (although I think I am still in an introductory free interest period.)

Most frequent flier cards have an annual fee but still may be worth it. I think I am going to get the current AA Citibank offer because it will push my Aadvantage miles into the threshhold for a free ticket which I could use. After this trip may switch to using the air miles card more, we'll see. Getting money for Disney vacations while making everyday purchases sure does make me smile though.

It doesn't sound like you use your card much. Even if you switch to the Citi card, you'd only have earned $25 so far.

I don't, but $25 is better than $5 and I can use it anywhere! :)

If I'm understanding this correctly a couple of posters said they never got the double rewards.? I hope that's not true. They sent us a promotion to earn double rewards in Oct., Nov., Dec if we charged medical expenses. I had surgery last month and ended up with about $3500 out of pocket expenses that I promptly charged to the Disney Visa. If we don't get those double rewards I'll have a fit!

I think the posters mean that they never get the double rewards offers that other people on the boards report getting. I know DH and I only got the double rewards offer once, and the dollar amount that we had to hit was so astronomically high, we never would have reached it. Plus, since then, I have seen lots of other reports of people getting double rewards offers and they tend to be people who say they don't use the cards all that often. We charge everything and rarely have a bill under $1,000.

The Disney Visa had been our primary card since Sept. 2003. We charge everything, and we had nothing but good things to say about them. But then the past few months we have had nothing but problems. We went to Disney in December and I requested a rewards card for the trip in October. Never got it. Again in November. Never got it. Again the beginning of December - even paid a rush fee for it. Never got it. We had over $300 in rewards we had been planning on using for the trip. I tried to get a card while we were in Disney, but the 4 times we were in DTD, there was never anyone stffing the Disney Visa booth. After we got back from our trip, I spent 3 hours on the phone with Chase trying to get them to credit my rewards dollars against the charges I made in Disney. 3 hours, 4 supervisors, and countless times of pointing out that our statement and the rewards card were sent to the same address and the statement manages to get there EVERY month, I finally got them to do it. They still havent manged to refund me the $10 rush fee though.

Needless to say, the Disney Visa is not going to be our primary credit card anymore. We'll be splitting our purchases between our Amex and Citibank cards now.

For someone who LOVES Disney, I think it's a great card to have. Not just for the reward money you can earn but for the other unexpected benefits that come and go.

I have been to at least 6 free movie screenings and I LOVE new the Meet and Greet offer at Epcot for the 50th Celebration.

I like the DCL room credit.

I like the www.disneyshopping.com discounts.

I like the Broadway and other discounts as well.

I'm very happy so far.

We got the card for our trip last summer, and got $25 gc.

I don't think we'll be back to Disney for 2-3 years, do the credits pile up year over year, or do you have to "use-em or lose-em" ?

TIA for your experiences!

The credits do expire but it's several (5?) years down the road as long as you don't transfer them to a rewards card. Once rewards are transferred to a card, they expire when the card expires.
