Disney Combo DVDs and VHS's?

Now I've noticed Disney re-releasing their films in some combo packs like, Mulan 1 and 2 in 1 DVD set, The Fox and the Found 1 and 2, Pocahontas 1 and 2, The Rescuers 1 and 2, The Little Mermaid 2 and 3.

But I can't recall anymore combo packs like these, how many more are there? And should I update from my VHS's to DVDs? I've seen the differences and I dislike the color tone to some of the newer DVDs of the old classics etc. It just looks weird to me anyway haha.

How do you guys own your Disney collections?

We've been switching (and growing) our collection to DVDs. VCRs are getting harder to find/buy, and when ours breaks, I want to still be able to watch all my--I mean DD's --movies. My best friend has switched over to almost all Blu-ray. We buy from the Disney Movie Club (when we worked it all out, I think it was like $15/movie after the free ones were accounted for in the "regular" priced movies), and don't mind the combo sets, even though we tend to be non-sequel-likers.

I spotted collecting VHS tapes quite a while ago. I went to DVD and how now moved onto Blu-Ray. At this point, I'd either go to DVD or Blu-Ray. If you have a HD TV or are planning on getting a new TV in the near future, I would skip DVD and jump straight to Blu-Ray.

I don't know about DVD, but I believe there is a box set for the three Toy Story movies. Atlantis and Milo's Return were also sold as a Blu-Ray combo pack, as was Pocahontas 1 & 2, Rescuers 1 & 2, Mulan 1 & 2, Lilo & Stitch 1 & 2, Fox & the Hound 1 & 2, and Brother Bear 1 & 2. There are probably others, but those are the ones I recall seeing.

I have collected the Disney VHS tapes because I find them at our local library or thrift store for sale for $1, but there is a reason technology has evolved. VHS tapes have shorter lives and no company makes VHS players any longer so I would upgrade to Blu-Ray and slowly purchase new ones to keep your collection.

The 101 Dalmatians Diamond Edition release is in a few weeks - maybe a good place to start??

I switched over to DVD but then broke down and bought a Blu Ray because everything seems to come out on Blu Ray combo packs. If I were just switching over now I'd go straight to Blu Ray. Disney Movie Club is a great way to kick start your collection. Sleeping beauty came out not so long ago so should be pretty easy to find and 101 Dalmatians will be out soon so that might be a good place to start.

Hang on to your VHS tapes though. God only knows when Aladdin will ever be released from the vault.

I wouldn't waste money buying DVDs. Go for the blue ray discs. Even their days are probably numbered. So much easier to distribute movies by letting people download them.

As someone who has spent the last couple of years updating her collection from DVD (that I upgraded from VHS ) to Blu Ray, go Blu Ray. Or better yet get the Blu Ray/DVD/Digital Copy packs. It's impossible to future proof but I've found this has been the best way for me to at least try. By buying the multi packs like that I can do things like put the same movie on for each kid in a different room and they can download them to their tablets to take on long car rides. (fair warning, I bought BluRay players to replace my kids DVD players and they do NOT play DVDs. Not sure when that change happened but something to keep in mind)

That said I think DVDs will be around for awhile. People lean toward them because they are less expensive and companies market to that. The movie club does work in your favor if you want to build your collection quickly. There are also forums where people buy the multi packs and sell off their DVDs for a reasonable price.

As to the combo packs I've been buying as they come out so its hard to say how many there actually are. I prefer single copy and only buy the combos if that's my only choice. The diamond line will be ending next year I think and then Disney will start all over. It's hard to tell what their method will be then.
