Disney Club membership expiration date?

I am preparing to sign up for DC on their website, but cannot find info on expiration dates. Is it by calendar year or by date of membership?

I have discovered that when you are renewing your DC membership, wait til close to the end of your renewal month (like 4/28 for the end of April). When they renew the membership, the new expiration month will be the end of the following month. It's like getting 13 months instead of 12. Your new card will arrive in about a week's time.
