Disney Chicken Nuggets

This might seem like sort of a strange question, but what fast food chain's chicken nuggets are closest to those at Disney?

I ask because my DS, who has Asperger's Syndrome is very rigid about his food, and will only eat chicken nuggets from certain places. I will need to do some preparation with him before we go, and i'm just wondering if I can tell him...Disney Nuggets are exactly like Sonic's or McDonald's, etc.

Also, does Restaurantosaurus serve McDonalds chicken nuggets? I know they have nuggets, and the WDW site says the following about Restaurantosaurus:

McDonald's fast-food favorites are served in this dinosaur-centric restaurant.

TIA!!

You can no longer get McDonald's anywhere on WDW property. Their contract ended and was not renewed.

IMO the kids nuggets are closest to Wendy's nuggets. They have that slightly more breadcrumb texture rather than a beer batter type of texture to the breading. The flavour and texture of the chicken itself isn't quite the McD texture. Of course this is all from memory since we haven't been able to order them in a long time due to allergies so hopefully somebody else will chime in, but I am confident that they are NOT like McDonald's ones.

The adult chicken tenders are more like you'd find in an adult basket at a restaurant. They're breaded longer strips of chicken breast. The breading is lumpy and crispy with a bit of seasoning (mostly a bit of salt and pepper I believe. I really don't know how else to describe it.

The allergy chicken tenders have a finer breading than the regular tenders and they taste like the chicken itself has maybe been injected with a broth for flavouring and tenderizing. They are strips of chicken like the regular tenders but they're much straighter if that makes any sense.

Other than chicken nuggets, what else does he eat? Maybe we can offer suggestions for other foods he can get around WDW.

My son has an autism dx and he too is very particular. I was at least counting on McDonald's french fries. Are the french fries gone too?

All the McDonalds outlets in the theme parks and at Downtown Disney are gone. The only McDonald's remaining on property is the stand-alone restaurant near the All-Stars resorts, which can be accessed by walking from the area resorts, but not by Disney transportation.

Thanks for your reply...i had heard that McD's was out of the parks, which was why I was thrown when i saw on Disney's site that Restaurantosaurus served their food.

He likes Wendy's nuggets, so hopefully that will be something he can deal with. He mostly eats breakfast foods...waffles, pancakes, french toast, bacon, sausage, yogurt, fruit. No eggs. I plan to pack things like frozen gogurt, peanut butter sandwiches (which he will eat somtimes), trail mix, portable fruits, etc for him to eat for lunch in the parks if he doesn't like the choices (which i'm guess mostly he won't.) Additionally, we've already contacted Special Diets and they have said that the chef's at the restaurants where we've made ADR's should be able to accommodate him and make him breakfast for dinner, which will be huge!!!

Thanks again!

Will he eat pb&j? Some CS locations carry uncrustables. There's also fresh fruit available at stands in the parks and some CS locations also have some cut up fruits and some carry yogurts (I know all resorts do but I haven't paid attention in the parks). I agree with you that carrying foods he will eat really is the best idea just in case. An autistic meltdown is what I spend most of my trip trying to avoid so I can certainly sympathize.

4littleones, the fries around WDW are fatter than McDonald's fries. If he's really fussy then he won't even try to taste them. They don't taste like McD's anyway (I think McDs adds some kind of addictive substance to them; I swear they must LOL) but he'll definitely see right away that they're different.

Thanks. I really would have gone into our vacation thinking McD's food (or at least fries) were still available.

We tried P&J uncrustables last week and he took a few bites so I will keep working on that. It's funny how great Disney is about accommodating to diets like GFCF and here I am with a kid who has no restrictions and I'm bribing him to eat uncrustables :rotfl2:

4littleones - I hear you on the bribing to eat uncrustables - if Christian would eat those, my life would get much easier!!! :woohoo:

Right now, we have Christian in an OT program through a hospital here in NJ, specifically for kids with ASD related eating issues and other eating problems, and PB&J is something we are working hard on right now, he'll do PB without the J, but combining tastes and textures is hard for him. He doesn't like mixing textures, i.e. no nuts in ice cream, etc. Hopefully by our trip (Jan), we'll have made enough progress that he will do the uncrustables :goodvibes

My DS is into breakfast foods too (he actually gets 3 slices of bacon a day because of low cholesterol). I never in a million years would have thought to ask for a Breakfast at lunch or dinner as an accommodation, that is a fantastic plan.

I even set up all of our ADR's for breakfast times with hopes that the breakfast menu will be a hit for ds and my girls.

Between McDs and Wendys, the nuggets are more like wendys, though they're certainly not "just like."

Just a warning, my DD (who will eat chicken nuggets from Wendy's without complaint), had never met a chicken nugget she didn't like until she tried the ones at WDW. We got them in multiple places (because she was picky and there wasn't much else, if anything, on the CS menus she would eat) and each time, she would take a bite or two and we wound up throwing them away. I tasted one to see, and I have to admit, I thought they were nasty too. If he will eat chicken strips, you might try the strips from the adult menu. I learned that trick from another Mom at WL Roarin Forks who was ordering the adult chicken strips for her kids. She said her kids wouldn't touch the kid's chicken nuggets because they said they were gross, but they were fine with the chicken strips. Turned out DD was the same way.

I have to agree. My son hates the chicken nuggets. I thought he was being picky so I tasted one and realized what he meant. They have a very processed taste to them.

It's my understanding that Restaurantosaurus in AK has McD's Chicken Nuggets. Not sure if they're the ACTUAL McD's nuggets though...

edited: Sorry, never mind. I missed the end of your post essentially ASKING if they were the actual McD's nuggets. Serves me right for speed reading!

Picture of the standard kids nuggets.

These were from captain cooks at the Poly but the same nuggets are served in the parks.

My DD wouldn't eat them and she loves mcdonalds nuggets - they were dry and hard. She did like the adult chicken strips.

One of my sons is also into breakfast foods but mostly just pancakes and waffles. He will eat grapes, apples and watermelon and some types of "Gogurt". He eats pizza but he is very picky about it. He just started eating pasta with sauce (takes him way too long to eat it but we are working on that) and we are trying to get him to eat other things too in anticipation of our january/february trip. Good to know they can be accomodating. I had hoped that I could get something for him at lunch and/or dinner but wasn't sure. Thanks for posting that info!!! Any your original post wasn't weird to me - i posted asking for pics of pizza found at WDW.

I tried the child's meal chicken nuggets at the Contempo Cafe last summer and wished I hadn't. They are nothing like my Wendy's nuggets.

They no longer serve anything from McDonalds. It's now standard Disney fast food. Unfortunately the website has apparently not been updated.

At Costco, in the freezer section, they have a giant bag of Mickey head chicken nuggets. I think these taste/texture very similar to the nuggets on property. So if you have a Costco nearby, you might try them. My kids will eat them, but they are a little strange ( not sure exactly how to describe that the flavor is a bit different).
